first, happy birthday to my padre.
I’m a lucky lucky gal to have such an amazing dad who will do anything in his power to support and help his kids.
Second, my heart is still breaking for New York.
I am very fortunate that my family is safe and has power again, our house didn’t have any damage, and my amazing dad already visited my apartment to clean up.
While I feel incredibly lucky that I’ve been far away from the hurricane destruction, enjoying power, sunshine and beautiful weather in California, this doesn’t erase the feeling in my gut. The feeling that I should be in New York during the good and the bad because it is my home. It is where I was born, it is where I’ve lived my entire life.
California, you are a beautiful state, but I am definitely ready to go back home. Back to New York.
So, things didn’t work out this fall the way I imagined: the program that I moved to California for got cancelled, and my best friend started a job which has left me alone with many many hours to amuse myself. I’ve tried to make the best of the situation and soak up Los Angeles during my brief time here.
What I Did In California
(besides studying NASM and working out like a mad woman)
- toured warner brother studios (and sat on the friends couch)
- got hooked on the tv shows “the mindy project” “new normal” and “emily owens MD”
- went to San Diego
- saw Amanda Palmer in Concert
- saw Mika in concert
- Saw Russell Brand do stand up
- went to Santa Monica beach a bunch
- hiked Runyon Canyon daily
- Saw Davey Havok, lead singer from AFI, at the gym multiple times
- went to LACMA
- saw an incredible production of “By the Way, Meet Vera Stark”
- FINALLY saw Book of Mormon
- read. a lot
- went to Disneyland halloween
- and cooked!
There’s still a few fun activities planned before I head back east– seeing Hedwig and the Angry Inch live tonight, hopefully cirque du soleil: Iris, going to a few grad school info sessions, seeing Seminar, seeing Princess (Maya Rudolph’s band) and of course a few more trips to the canyon.
The weather here may be freaken perfect, but I am definitely ready to head back home, see the family, see my boy, and get reacquainted with Manhattan.
anything i must do before leaving los angeles?
