oh my is my body sore and bruised…. and for once that’s not thanks to my fitness shenanigans.
No, no, it is thanks to my favorite band of all time, Green Day.
When I initially purchased tickets to see Green Day at Mohegan Sun and Barclay’s I thought hey, one concert is on Wednesday, the other Saturday… might as well purchase pit tickets for both because I’ll have time to recuperate. Well, the concerts got pushed from January to April, and the Mohegan Sun and Barclays dates ended up back to back. Yeesh. Lots of travel in one weekend? Yes. Lots of being shoved around in the pit? Yes. Lots of being on my feet? Yes. But oh so worth it.
Early Saturday morning the boy and I made the trip from Westchester to the Mohegan Sun resort in Connecticut. We came armed with healthy snacks and ready for a longggg day of waiting in line.
Apples, Strawberries, whole wheat bread for making sandwiches and luna bars. Prepared much? Luckily there was plenty of other food at Mohegan Sun to keep us full all day.
Once we arrived at the venue, around 11am, we joined the line with the rest of the general admission people and basically spent the rest of the day standing around waiting to be let in at 7pm.
Jeremy wins the award for best boyfriend ever. I don’t think he knew what he was agreeing to when I asked him “oh wanna go see Green Day with me in the pit”. He didn’t realize that was code for “hey, lets stand around for 12+ hours so I can obsess over Green Day”.
Finally after 8 or so hours of waiting we got in. We ended up second row which was a bit disappointing since the guys in front of me were well over 6 feet tall, and I’m an itty bitty girl. Despite that aspect it was an amazing concert, not to mention quite the workout jumping up and down and bracing my abs so I didn’t get knocked over.
After sleeping over in Connecticut it was time to head to Brooklyn bright and early in the morning. I ended up meeting up with my good friends Cami and Katie from high school whom I’ve gone to a number of Green Day related events with in the past.

Luckily they got there at 7am and were only about 30 people back in line. Spending the afternoon in the Barclay’s area was actually great– we were surrounded by Starbucks and Target so we had all the essentials to get us through the day.
We ended up first row. The thing with first row is you gotta hold on tight to the gates with your elbows or people will try to push you off (I swear, these concerts really are a workout!) so I now have a nice lovely tricep bruise. Still worth it.
By the end of concert # 2 I was definitely a sleepy girl, but oh so happy to have the chance to see my favorite band play two incredible concerts.
Monday morning it was back to reality. I spent the day in a sleepy, post concert daze. At least my body was so excited to workout after 3 days of “rest”. I was crunched for time yesterday because I ended up teaching a couple of fitness classes so I decided to go for a run in the neighborhood again. The sun was shining and I was so happy to be in a tank top and shorts.
(blurred out the starting point because it was my apartment building)
This run took a lot more out of me than I was expecting. After having such a good 3 mile run last week I was surprised with how much I was struggling only 5 minutes in thanks to a cramp in my side. I wanted to push for 4 miles to prove I could, but I ended up taking 2 mini walk breaks after mile 1 and mile 3. I’m still getting used to running in Manhattan.. and well running all together so I’m not too disappointed with how things went. Running + teaching TRX, zumba and boot camp? Long Monday.
It’s supposed to reach 78 degrees today, say what!? I chose the perfect day to take my first flying trapeze class of the season. So freaken excited to get back in the air.
Thank you spring for finally arriving!
what’s the best concert you’ve ever gone to?
how do you deal with side cramps while running?
