How ’bout that New York monsoon yesterday?
One minute I’m enjoying a nice light drizzle while walking home from trapeze, next thing I know it’s torrential downpour…
To say I got soaked would be an understatement…
Before the monsoon hit I spent my afternoon at the trapeze rig taking class and of course getting sunburnt. I’m still easing back into flying post-shoulder injury so I don’t agitate my rotator cuff again. It’s a slow, frustrating process but I’m getting there. In the beginning I didn’t really work on tricks and just wanted to get used to being back up there, but in recent classes I’ve been working on my layout again. I worked on my layout from January 2012 until I got injured that March– and it started to become a pretty consistent trick. Now I just gotta get my layout back.
March 2012, flying in a show on my injured shoulder.
May 2013. This is from last week. It’s getting there! I seriously need to stay tight though.
Being in classes with all newbies yesterday reminded me of just how silly and awesome it is that I get to go to flying trapeze once a week. It’s a strange hobby, no doubt, but I will never get sick of the adrenaline rush. Even now, years later, I still get a bit nervous before taking off.

Hard to believe that in less than one week I will be in Disney World with the boy!
To say we are excited would be an understatement.
Despite being a gym-junkie my main focus in Disney isn’t going to be working out and eating 100% healthy– it’s Disney, I’m there for the Tower of Terror and Splash Mountain. Even so, I’m still going to do my best to remain relatively active and continue to eat relatively clean and dairy-free.
Here’s some of the ways to keep somewhat healthy even on the go
- Eat a healthy breakfast. Starting off the day on a healthy notes means you can indugle a bit later in the day. Even in Disney I plan on starting my morning with my usual breakfast of whole wheat toast with peanut butter
- Bring snacks. I’m basically a toddler and need to munch on something every 3 hours or I get cranky. I will be packing some snacks such as luna bars and nuts to keep me going strong all day at Disney. When in doubt I will seek out one of the fresh fruit vendors.
- Walking, Walking and More Walking. No matter where I’m traveling one of my favorite things to do is explore the area and aimlessly walk around. Most of the day at Disney World will be spent on my feet (except for when I’m screaming my head off on the Rockin’ Roller Coaster of course) which means LOTS of walking. I’m hoping to actually use my phone GPS to map out just out much walking occurs in a typical day at Disney. Should be interesting!
- Go for a run. The great thing about running is it doesn’t require much equipment– just sneakers, and a safe place to hit the pavement. My hotel doesn’t have an on property gym, but there is a jogging trail which I hope to take full advantage of. I don’t plan on going cray-cray with the running since it will be hot and Disney days are incredibly long, but I definitely hope to get in 2-3 runs during the week to keep me sane…. and it’s kind of necessary because I’m running a 10k in 2 weeks.
- Do a no equipment needed workout. You don’t need fancy machines and extravagant equipment to get a good workout.
- Don’t stress about it! I keep reminding myself it’s only vacation. Vacation should be a time to enjoy myself, break free of my usual routine and regime, while also indulging myself in some things I wouldn’t typically. It’s vacation, and it’s only 5 days of my life.
Hope you all have a lovely long weekend! I’m most excited about taking my favorite zumba class tomorrow morning with my favorite instructor– it’s been forever since I’ve taken her class so it should be a treat!
