Sadly, all amazing Disney World vacations have to come to an end. And sadly I am currently sitting in the Orlando Airport waiting for my delayed flight to arrive…
However, Disney was AWESOME.
The boy and I had a seriously amazing vacation with Mickey Mouse and successfully conquered Disney World.
There was something oddly relaxing about our trip. Spending 6 days riding roller coasters may sound far from relaxing but it definitely felt like a vacation. Both of us were able to take a break from our usual technology filled routines. The only TV we watched all week was when the Heat and Pacers were playing and the only time we spent on our phones was when we were playing Words with Friends while waiting for an hour to ride the Rock’n’Roller Coaster. It felt nice to unplug and take a break from our typically technology filled lives.
Initially I had big, ambitious plans to run at least 2 times during vacation. On our first morning in Florida I headed out bright and early for a short run. At 7am Florida the weather was already hot and sticky making my 2 mile run a challenge. On top of that I still had to spend the entire day on my feet walking around the Magic Kingdom.
I love working out, I work out to help me control my anxiety, I work out because it makes me feel good, I work out because I love to sweat, I workout because I love being strong… but I soon realized that working had to do a whole lot of walking in Disney. So after that first morning I decided no more working out.
Yup, I haven’t worked out since Wednesday. I can’t even tell you the last time I went this many days without working out.
And you know what? I feel fine. My shorts still fit and my anxiety is manageable. I kept reminding myself that the gym will still be there when I get back to New York.
When the opportunity presents itself I love working out while away from home, it means I get to explore the fitness scene in a new place, however I soon acknowledged the fact that the focus of my vacation wasn’t to work out. I came to Disney to experience Disney.
I had to give myself permission to not workout. Don’t get me wrong, I’m super excited to sweat it out tomorrow morning, but I think my body needed a break.
Over the next few days I’ll share with you some highlights from our trip– our favorite eats, attractions and tips for conquering Disney World.
And now, back to real life…
Have you ever taken a break from your intense work out regime?
Do you workout while on vacation?
