Happy Father’s Day to my incredible dad
He may drive us all crazy but I wouldn’t trade him for any other dad.
After working 4 opening shifts in a row today’s sleep in felt GLORIOUS. Who would’ve guessed that waking up at 8:45am would be considered a sleep-in? I woke up refreshed and ready to kick some serious butt at Exceed this morning.
One of the things I love about Exceed is that each class uses circuits. I’m a huge fan of circuits both for my own workouts and when creating a plan for personal training clients. I have the attention span of a gnat and get discouraged easily so love knowing I only have to do a particular exercise for a short period of time and then I get to move on to a new form of torture. From a science stand point circuits are great for people who are looking to lose weight and tone up. I like to create plans that utilize both cardio and strength training because the cardio bursts keep the heart rate up while the strength training portion helps build muscles and burn fat.
Here’s a quick’n’dirty circuit I created this week for a client. He seemed to really enjoy it and was a sweaty beast by the end of our session.
Modifications:
– instead of jump squats: crouch down in a squat and raise up to your tippy-toes (it’s basically a squat jump minus the actual jump– and it still keeps that heart rate up!)
– instead of jump lunges: pulse in a lunge (both knees at approximately 90 degrees) on the same leg for 30 secs and then repeating on the other leg.
If you really want to go all out end this circuit with a killer abs series. My favorites are “up-up-down-down” planks, forearm planks, spideman planks and bicycles.
Do you enjoy circuit workouts?
I love classes that utilize circuits… especially when burpees are involved. Mentally I can tell myself that the burpees will be over before I know it!
