Any day I get to sleep-in past 4:45am is considered a good day!
The day started with “Kick Ass Conditioning” at Mark Fisher Fitness. Kick Ass is a series of circuits using kettlebells and body weight exercises– lots of goblet squats, KB swings, planks, bear crawls, push-ups and lunges. One thing I really love at MFF is how there are basic and more advanced options in every class. For example today we had the option of either holding a plank or doing bear crawls around the room… I opted for plank because bear crawls are no fun. This “choose your own adventure” approach really allows you to listen to your body and pick what’s best for you on that particular day.
After my workout (and walking around in the heat) I was a sweaty beast and wanted something easy for lunch. I suddenly remembered my favorite lunch from when I worked at day camp- spinach salad and a turkey wrap. Quick, no cooking necessary and easy to make in bulk!
Spinach, strawberries, already cooked edamame, and the star of the show- spiced almonds
Rather pricey, but a tasty splurge that made the salad a bit more awesome. I topped the salad off with some balsamic vinegar, aka my new best friend. With the salad I enjoyed my usual boring turkey wrap of just turkey with hummus.
What can I say, my eating habits aren’t very adventurous but at least I snuck in veggies and fruit in the salad.
After lunch it was time for an afternoon of relaxation at my parent’s pool. This heat wave has left me feeling pretty lethargic and unmotivated to leave the house, but I was won over by the thoughts of cool breezes, tanning and a rooftop pool.
The perfect “Staycation” two blocks away from my apartment. I’m loving the book I’m reading, “The Lost Girls” and was more than happy to spend the afternoon basking in the sun with a nice breeze and my nose stuck in a book. Whenever I got too hot from the sun I would take a few laps around the pool, and then head back to reading. Definitely my idea of the perfect afternoon.
I just got back from training a client so now it’s time to start thinking about dinner. Is it sad that I’m thinking about getting chili from the vegan place? I know it’s hot but sometimes ya just want chili
Hope you are all surviving this heat wave!! Or perhaps you are lucky enough to be somewhere that isn’t 90+ degrees….
