When Kira Stokes announces that she’s teaching a FREE outdoor cycling class, you best bet I will do anything in my power to be there.
Not only did I get to cross “Summer Streets” off my August To-Do list, but I also got to get my butt royally kicked by Ms. Stokes for the first time in awhile.
I arrived around 9:30am for the 10am class and good thing I decided to show up early since there was already a short line of devoted fans and newbies excited to cycle on this gorgeous day.
Cycling outdoors instead of in the usual dark room was a very different experience. I probably had my photo taken by 50+ people or passed by Astor Place this morning, including my parents who had an impressive aerial view from their apartment
Good thing I was wearing lime green, it made it much easier for them to spot me and wave! Despite being “on display” I absolutely adored cycling outdoors in the sun with a nice breeze every so often. The added audience just made me work harder 🙂
And of course Kira taught an intense yet fun class with a great playlist
The class was an hour long “RIP Ride” which I’ve taken a bunch of times at Revolve. The hour is broken up into 3 cycling sections with two breaks for upper body using weights. I’m a huge fan of the format because it makes the hour fly by. Just when you think you’re all cycled out it’s time for an upper body break, and just when you think your arms can’t handle any more exercises it’s time to cycle again.
Couldn’t ask for a more perfect Saturday morning work out.
Afterwards I headed home to quickly change and wake up the boy so we could explore the rest of Summer Streets.
Between Cross Fit demonstrations, a cardio dance class and a rock climbing wall there was plenty to do fo’ free… and this was just south of Astor Place. It warmed my heart to see so many New Yorkers biking, walking, running, dancing and more.
Haven’t made it out to Summer Streets yet? You got one more chance next Saturday.

So jealous! I love Kira’s RIP Ride and I would especially love it outside. I ran 10 miles on Summer Streets last week – I always love it!
