True Life: I’m obsessed with Katy Perry’s Roar
What can I say, I’m a sucker for a catchy pop song. Good thing this song was released today because it gave me the much needed energy buzz that kept me going from my 5:45am shift to the end of my workout at 7:40pm. When I finally got home and started cooking dinner I thought “Why are you so tired!” and then I remembered that I went straight from work to hanging out with my friend for his last day in New York to my workout. Definitely a long day for me!
Tonight’s workout was an outdoor Refine Method class! I was a wee bit nervous because I heard it involved a fair amount of running (and it did) but I am happy to say it wasn’t a deadly amount of running… and there was still lots of strength training too (aka the stuff I adore).
First we warmed up using glute bands followed by some mobility exercises. Then the running began– up a hill and down, do a quick agility ladder exercise and then back up the hill. After a few rounds of hill + ladder it was time for 3 strength training circuits using kettle bells, suspension trainers and good ole body weight exercises. Last up was sprints where we ran up the hill as fast as possible and walked back down to recover, timing ourselves for each sprint. I loved this accountability and it felt gooood to sprint for the first time in while. Running as fast as I could reminded me of doing the 50 yard dash for field day in Elementary School. Hm, perhaps I’m a better sprinter than distance runner…
After the workout I felt pretty wiped out and sweaty thanks to the running and intense cardio elements. I will say that it leans towards the bootcamp / cardio side of the fitness spectrum. While there is some strength training involved it wasn’t enough to really fatigue the muscles. Since I’m supposed to be running a half marathon in 2 months (… I’m in denial) it was a great way to get some extra run training in this week. Overall I enjoyed this sweaty sweaty workout and always love exercising outdoors.
Bedtime for this girl, it’s been a loooong day!
