Welp, I got me a case of the mid-afternoon sleepies!
Come on, iced coffee, do yo thang.
Here’s some random schtuff from this week:
–So far it’s been a solid week of working out and sticking to my exercise plan. Yesterday’s 4 mile run, though, was a bit of a struggle-fest. I’m hoping running the Runyon Damon 5K race at Yankee Stadium this Sunday with my good friend Sarah will give me the necessary push I need to get excited about running again.
new favorite running outfit. Because blue and orange look great together….
Like anything in life there’s the good days and bad days and I just need to accept that some runs won’t be easy– I’ll feel heavy and slow and struggle from the get go. I also seem to be struggling with the mental game of running and my thoughts quickly go negative once the run starts feeling difficult. I’ve always been really hard on myself in all aspects of life so it’s no surprise that running is the same way. I know I want to run this half marathon and experience the process of training for a half… which means I just gotta keep on pushing through even when its a struggle.
— It’s been a very musical theater week starting with Love Labour’s Lost last weekend, Kinky Boots earlier this week and Avenue Q last night. I’ve seen Avenue Q a number of times and have loved it since I was younger so it was great to revisit an old favorite. I got to spend time with my big brother and his friends who are here from Ireland and New Zealand. It was the guy from New Zealand’s first time seeing New York theater and first time seeing Time Square
I hate the crowds of Time Square as much as the next New Yorkers but there was something incredible about taking a second to see New York through a tourist’s eyes. Since I grew up visiting Manhattan frequently I honestly can’t remember the first time I saw Time Square or the first time I thought “I want to live in the city”, but witnessing someone else’s reaction was priceless.
— I am OBSESSED with this article about Patina Miller who plays the Leading Player in Pippin on Broadway. If her incredible body doesn’t make you wanna hit the dumbbells, I don’t know what will!
— I faced my fear of kale this week! Okay, maybe I wasn’t scared of it, but I was definitely a bit overwhelmed by this veggie. Apparently you’re supposed to massage it? That sounds like a very high maintenance vegetable if you ask me
I decided to blend the leaves into my usual green smoothie instead of spinach– 1 cup of vanilla almond milk, 1 banana, 1 teaspoon of honey, spoonful of almond butter + 1 cup of leafy greens. Not too shabby.
Post run yesterday I played around with a new fruitier smoothie
1 cup of coconut milk, 1 banana, handful of frozen mango, 4 frozen strawberries, 1 teaspoon of honey. Very refreshing.
— My rainbow fish nail is back!
I’ve seen a lot of people with gold nails recently so I wanted in on the fun.
Imma a huge fan of gel manicures– they can survive multiple trapeze classes and workouts without a chip. I know some people don’t have as much luck with them but I’ve found my favorite brand and can usually get the manicure to last 2-3 weeks with minimal peeling and chips. I’m prone to botch a normal manicure within minutes of leaving the salon so gels have been really great for me.
-And lastly, this guy and I will be celebrating a big anniversary this week!
It’s hard to believe that we’ve been dating for 2 years! We technically already gave each other anniversary gifts– our trip to Disney (!) but I’m looking forward to celebrating together with a fancy dinner out.
Anybody got good plans for the weekend? I’m working tomorrow… but sunday I’m running the Damon Runyon 5k for the third time!
