Greetings from Westchester! After running the Damon Runyon 5k on Sunday I decided to head home with my good friend Sarah. I’ll write up the extended race recap when I’m a bit more awake, but I will say that I crushed my time from last year (by 2 minutes) and Sarah kicked some serious butt finishing in under 30 minutes.
More photos in the recap post 🙂
I’m enjoying some downtime in Westchester and pretending it’s a mini-vacation. I ended up with a few days off of work in a row… which conveniently lined up with my 2 year anniversary with the boy. Hard to believe that tomorrow we will be celebrating our 2nd anniversary together! And after all this time he still puts up with me and my craziness…
This morning I was trying to figure out where to work out. I slept in too late to take my favorite classes at the nearby gym and searched for some first timer deals at local studios. I was happy to find out that Corelab, a mega reformer studio, offered a free class to newbies.
It was my first mega reformer class and I was a bit nervous since that machine looks like something you would read about in 50 shades of gray.
According to CoreLab’s website “The Megaformer provides constant resistance and counter-resistance using a system of springs and pulleys to deliver an intense full body workout. It offers numerous exercise options for the upper and lower body, and allows the body to transition smoothly and efficiently from one exercise to the next while maintaining an elevated heart rate. While on the Megaformer, your muscles are engaged in a non-aggressive, low-impact manner making this workout as good for your joints as it is for your muscles.”
The mega reformer ended up being not as terrifying as I anticipated. There’s something very stable about it even though it’s moving and I was shocked with how much I was sweating for a class that didn’t involve jumping around or intense cardio. The machine is pretty cool in the sense that there’s SO MANY things you can do with it. I felt like I got a pretty solid total body workout, although my abs, glutes and legs will probably be feeling it the most tomorrow.
I don’t think it will necessarily become my new favorite way to sweat, but it was a fun way to mix it up and challenge my body in a new way.
Last week I had a pretty awesome week of working out. My training runs were a bit rough mentally, but at least I got all the runs done plus got to take a bunch of awesome classes.
Monday: Refine Outdoor Bootcamp – done
Tuesday: Barre + Run 4 miles – done
Wednesday: Uplift Strength – done
Thursday: Barre + Run 4 miles – 4 miles, done
Friday: trapeze + Uplift Strength- done
Saturday: barre, yoga or rest- REST!
Sunday: Yankee Stadium 5K- done!!
This week:
Monday- corelab mega reformer class
Tuesday– spin + strength training
Wednesday – 4 mile run
Thursday – Uplift Strength
Friday – 4 mile run + barre
Saturday – 6 mile run or rest
Sunday – 6 mile run or Fhitting Room
I’m not sure how this week of working out is going to go, the weather might be a bit too hot on Wednesday for running and my legs might be crazy tired on Saturday after working all morning, so we shall see! My goal is to ultimately get in my 3 training runs (4/4/6), 2 strength days and 1 “bootcamp” type day (in this case Fhitting Room). We shall see how it all goes!
What’s on your workout agenda this week?
