Hope you all had a great weekend! How ’bout them VMAs? I can’t tell you the last time I actually watched them but since there was a a rumor that NSYNC was performing and I knew Katy Perry was closing the show I begged the boy to watch with me. Justin Timberlake did not disappoint and I adored Katy Perry’s boxing number. Immediately the boy and I looked at each other and agreed that we are going to Katy’s next tour.
Yesterday morning I enjoyed a nice sleep in and a pre-brunch workout. There’s just something about Sunday morning workouts that I have always loved. The city is quieter on Sunday mornings and getting a sweat session in before brunch puts me in the best mood. I kicked off my Sunday with a class at The Fhitting Room on the Upper East Side

The Fhitting Room is one intense workout using the theories of high intensity interval training (HIIT) and putting them to the test. According to The Fhitting Room’s website HIIT “involves performing an all-out, exhaustive physical effort for a shorttime followed by a short, sometimes active, recovery.” And trust me, it’s a sweat fest.
One this I love about TFR and HIIT is that it’s far from boring and monotonous. Class yesterday had us using “The Jungle Gym” (a suspension trainer similar to TRX), kettlebells, rowers, dumbbells and of course our own body weight in various circuits.
One of my favorite features at TFR is the 2 instructors leading every class. That means lots of eyes are on you, correcting you, heckling you and making sure you are safe but smiling during the class. A nice bonus is that the facilities are also incredibly clean..bit small and without a shower, but it gets the job done.
Curious about HIIT and can’t get to The Fhitting Room? Add this quick and dirty, no equipment needed workout as a part of your routine after warming up. Use the strength “breaks” as a time to catch your breath before the next cardio segment.
Aaaand last but not least, workouts from last week and the plan for this week:

Tuesday– spin + strength training – done!
Wednesday – 4 mile run – done!
Thursday – Uplift Strength done + 1 hour zumba audition

Yes, there’s no running in store for this week at the moment. This will be a run-free week to reevaluate my half marathon since I was starting to dread running.I’m hoping a week away will give me the gusto I need to get back to it and hit the pavement for the last stretch training or it will make me realize that running just ain’t my thing. We shall see.
Do you enjoy HIIT workouts?
