–This morning I had my best post-injury trapeze class. Yup, my best class in over a year!
My layout is finally looking catchable again and my swing (the things leading up to the flip) felt crazy strong. Not too shabby for an 8am class on my day off! I downloaded this awesome app “Coaches Eye” which let me slow down the videos from my iPhone. Sometimes it’s hard to have any sense of what’s going on when I’m flipping through the air while also trying to remember a million things… so getting an instant replay in slow-mo is very helpful. Hopefully I can fit in a few more classes before the summer rig closes for the season.
It was also a treat to slowly walk home after class and not be in a rush to get anywhere.
— As I previously stated I’m having my doubts about the Diva Half Marathon in October. I decided to take it easy this week and focus on my favorite workouts — zumba, cycling and strength training, so I can take a breather and figure out what I want to do about this pesky half.
I was home in Westchester on Wednesday for a doctors appointment and decided to visit my favorite bike path for a quick run. Nothing crazy, roughly 30 minutes without tracking distance. It felt incredibly freeing to not have Miss Nike App in my ear telling me how fast (or in most cases how slow) I am going. It was honestly the best non-race run I’ve had in a while and reminded me how awesome running can be.
I’m thinking I might start focusing on more timed runs and less for mileage in upcoming weeks of training. I know I generally run a 10 minute mile so I can gauge how long a run should be off of that. Does anyone have experience training for a half marathon this way instead of purely based on mileage?
— I got me some new kicks! My feeties have been hurtin’ after working long shifts on my feet in my worn out sneakers. I visited basically every sneaker store in the Flatiron District on a quest for a pair of sneakers that would make my feet happy at work and a pair of lighter weight sneakers for certain gym classes.
Pair 1 is the newest edition of my first Asic love, the nimbus
They’ve been EXCELLENT for long shifts at work and I am happy to say my feet are no longer in pain at the end of the day.
Pair #2 is a pair of Nike Bionics
I’m still getting used to the Bionics but so far so good at zumba and a strength training class at Uplift. I love how light weight they are-something very different than what I usually wear to the gym.
Slowly but surely sneakers are taking over my closet. But really, I’m not surprised 🙂
— The boy and I tried Ethiopian food for the first time at Lalibela in Mount Kisco.
I chose a mild lentil based dish and the boy went for a spicy beef option. Ethiopian food is served on top of injera, a crepe like bread made with teff. Instead of using utensils you use the injera to pinch the food and roll it up. At first the boy and I were worried that this method would not work for us (we both can’t use chopsticks after all) but we had no issues. I really enjoyed my lentil dish and will probably be adventurous next time and choose something a bit spicier.
— And lastly,
Powerful words the weekend before I go back to school and start this new path.
Hope you all have a great long weekend!
