Man, this post-bacc stuff is no joke. I have so much respect for pre-med students! When I’m not sitting in class you can generally find me at the NYU library, annoying the tutors with my silly chemistry questions at the university learning center, attending bio study sessions, sitting at my desk pretending to do some work, or at work enjoying the break from science.
As intense and often times stressful as this has been so far, I am still filled with excitement thinking of the end product- going to graduate school for physical therapy and eventually becoming a physical therapist. Yes right now I am praying I pass chemistry and biology, but it’s ultimately for a good cause.
I finally went food shopping for the first time since school started. My fridge was looking pretty sad…
Not that I’ve ever been an extravagant cook but now more than ever I need to have food on hand that’s super quick to prepare but still healthy to keep me going all day. I’ve been living off takeout for the past 2 weeks out of pure laziness and lack of food in my apartment. But now I’ve got the basics to at least make tuna salad, turkey wraps, fried rice and pear salad to hold me over.
The weather has been flip flopping back and forth between fall and summer so yesterday I embraced the cooler weather with my favorite running jacket. Who doesn’t love thumb holes?
My workout regime has had to change– I can no longer devote 45 minutes to barre followed by a run the way I could in this past year. It’s all about time efficiency and getting a sweat session in whenever I can. In college I rolled my eyes at people who said they had no time to workout, my undergraduate course load was far from light, but I always made time to head to the gym whether it was before class or at night. I’m realizing it’s not that easy as a postbacc student who is juggling school, work and fun. This means I might have to wake up at 5:20am so I can take a barre class before my 8am chem lecture or that I have to cut my run short by a mile so I can head back home and finish my homework. At the end of the day a quick workout is better than no workout.
I’m just happy I have any sort of time to run, go to barre and strength train. Working out is my “me” time and a nice break from science-land
Don’t worry, my life isn’t just science, exercising and working. I’ve been lucky to have a lot of dinner dates with good friends over the past 2 weeks and it’s keeping me sane when I can’t look at another science problem. Last night I also got to see Sleep No More with my friend Lauren.
Before the show we enjoyed dinner at the rooftop restaurant Galloway Greens which set the mood for our night at the McKittrick Hotel. I’d heard a lot about Sleep No More when I was in college, my fellow theater students and teachers were OBSESSED with the show where you roam around an old hotel and witness a story based on Macbeth. It’s basically a 5 floor funhouse of interactive theater where you explore all the different rooms and decide what you want to see. All of this happens while you remain absolutely silent and have a mask on your face. Lauren and I left there super excited to tell each other about what scenes we witnessed during the 2 hour show.
Time to get back to science-land…
How does the school year change your schedule?
Anyone have some advice for how to survive chem and bio :)?
