…. Apologies for the not even witty Stephen Sondheim reference. What can I say, my first love was musical theater!
Saturday kicked off round two of half marathon training!!! One of the many reasons I decided to run my second half marathon with Team in Training was because of the group training aspect. As I learned this summer the hardest part of half marathon training for me was really overcoming my own mental blocks. My body was more than capable of running the mileage I needed to run but my brain was a whole other story.
I love the idea of training with a team. Even though I’m not as nervous this time around since I now know I can absolutely run a half marathon (I did it once I can do it again, right?) it’s still a bit daunting to be going at it again and this time in the winter.
Saturday morning I felt like a little kid on the first day of school excited to start this incredible journey with Team in Training.
It was actually my first time running in Central Park!! I know CP is a runner’s oasis for many New Yorkers, but I’ve always been overwhelmed by the process of getting there from my apartment downtown. It requires metro cards and traveling which overwhelms me for some reason so I usually stick to the running pathways on the East or West side since they are walking distance from my apartment.
The weather wasn’t too horrible- of course cold but not bitter. We ended up running the lower loops twice which came out to roughly 3 miles. I ALWAYS run with music so it was definitely weird to run sans headphones and instead engage my fellow runners in conversation. As much as I love rocking out to Green Day and bizarre musical theater tunes on my own runs there was something great about meeting the other people and it made the time fly by.
By the end of the winter I’ll be a Central Park running pro and know all the different paths 🙂
Besides the group run on Saturday this weekend fleeeew by. I had the boy here all weekend since we won’t be able to see each other again until finals are over, and my good friend (and running buddy!) Sarah slept over Saturday since she ran a half marathon today (which she PRed by the way– what a beast!). The three of us had a fun weekend of hanging out together and showing Sarah a tiny bit of NYC since she hasn’t been here too many times. After a fun non-stop kind of weekend I’m wiped out… and of course less than thrilled for 8AM classes tomorrow.
At least this is the last week of classes for the semester !!

Where’s your favorite place to run in your town?
If you could run anywhere in the world where would it be?

Thanks again for making my weekend in the city so awesome! The hills of central park weren’t that hard and I would totally run them again! Cat hill was nothing… harlem hills were a little daunting.
My favorite place to run in my hometown has to be the bike path. It runs right behind my house… so I just hop on and hop off when I’m done. When I’m running a shorter run (3 miles or less) I’ll sometimes hit the track for a change of scenery.
So glad you’re sticking with running for a bit! The more running buddies the better!
