In high school I made a pretty big effort to dress “stylish”. True story: I used to figure out an entire months worth of outfits before school started every fall. I was a little bit crazy about not repeating outfits. Since then I’ve gotten a bit lazy about my outfits, which is partially because I spend the majority of my week in yoga pants thanks to working in the fitness industry. Another true story: I refused to wear jeans for an entire week leading up to finals this year. It was a major success and I was nice and comfy in my yoga pants.
Anyways, I’m now 23 but fear I sometimes still dress like I’m 16 since I’m pretty petite and therefore struggle to dress age appropriate. Enter Stitch Fix (<– Affiliate link). Stitch Fix is a monthly service that basically acts like your personal buyer choosing 5 articles of clothing based on a survey you fill out. How magical is that?
My first box arrived today and I felt like it was early christmas… errr late Chanukah since I don’t celebrate Christmas. I was just getting back from a super sweaty spin class and basically took the quickest shower ever so I could open the box and try on my new clothes!
Shameless headless pictures ahead– I live alone and had to make do with cellphone + mirror pics.
First up: an outfit that SCREAMS Kayla. 3/4 Galway Sleeve Button-up blouse with pearl buttons paired with dark green skinny jeans also in the box. The jeans are a tiny bit long (I’m 5’2″ so I’m not surprised) but fit otherwise and didn’t look too scrunched up with flats. I’ve never seen skinny jeans in this color but loved them with a black top. The blouse is so ridiculously me, it’s perfect.
Next up is this stripped bright colored blouse. At first I wasn’t crazy about the top when I tried it on with skinny jeans, but was pleasantly surprised with how it looked tucked into a pencil skirt or jean shorts. It’s not something I would typically pick for myself, but I can see myself wearing it, especially during warmer months.
From the second I saw this dress I knew I loved it and prayed it would fit. Last night I actually tried on a similar dress I own and was sad that the dress felt way too short for a 23 year old to get away with (this is a common issue I have with my clothing from high school and early parts of college…). This new black and white dress has an almost identical silhouette but is far more appropriate. I love that this dress can be warn with or without tights… and I imagine would look super cute with colored tights. Obviously this dress is a keeper. Also pictured: my new Cole Haan heels that I got on crazy discount at Nordstrom Rack after finals. Obsessed.
Last piece of clothing was a leopard print infinity scarf. I’m not crazy about animal print clothing and don’t wear fashion scarves all that often, but think it could look nice with a black top and jeans.
Verdict: I’m keeping all the pieces. It is incentive that you get a nice 25% discount if you keep all the clothing items but all in all I’m pretty impressed with my first fix 🙂
