Fitness nerd alert: sometimes before I take a new-to-me class I’m so anxious/ excited the night before that I wake up every few hours paranoid that I missed my alarm. Truth, it happened before my first ever zumba class back in the day, and today it happened before my first class indoor cycling class at CYC.
I’ve been reading up on CYC for some time now and love their focus on creating a fitness community for undergrads and young professionals in “college towns”. I know for me personally it sometimes felt isolating that my college friends weren’t necessarily into fitness and joining me at the gym so I would’ve loved to have met fitness enthusiasts at NYU. I was totally CYCed (haha get it?)when I found out they were opening up a studio not only in Manhattan but a few blocks away from my apartment with cheaper prices than most cycling studios.
It’s actually funny, CYC is located within David Barton aka the first gym I ever joined! Being back at David Barton today for the first time in a few years was a blast from the past. I spent many a night on the treadmills rocking out to American Idiot on my iPod…
The 9:30AM class today wasn’t all that crowded, as would be expected on a Sunday morning, but our instructor, Devon, didn’t let the small crowd stop him from bringing the energy. What made the class most unique to me is the formatting. Instead of the usual 1 song or no songs with weights as is typical in most cycling classes I’ve taken, CYC has 4 songs with weights. Yes, 4 songs devoted to using weights in a cycling class– that’s a whole lot of arms! It made the 45 minutes fly by since that took up a large chunk of the time.
During class it was clear that CYC is all about making fitness a fun, social experience. I’ll definitely be back soon!
Other thoughts from this weekend
— I got my second Stitch Fix! (<— affiliate link) and am currently wearing one of the tops
I love love love the color and like that it’s a bit fancier your typical t-shirt or sweater. Out of the 5 pieces I received I’m keeping 4 of them… and just ‘cuz the last item didn’t fit. Stitch Fix has been a great way to update my wardrobe and start dressing my age. Between last month and this month I’ve gotten some great stuff.
— I went back to Cross Fit yesterday! It was my first workout since getting my wisdom teeth out Monday so I was a wee bit worried since 1. I’m still pretty new to CrossFit and 2. I had surgery on Monday. My mouth survived the workout and I actually kind of liked the workout because I got to do PULL UPS! It’s been my long time goal to bang out 3 pull ups, so I loved getting to work on them yesterday in class with the help of a large band. Maybe 2014 will finally be the year of the pull up?
— Winter break is sadly over. It was definitely fun while it lasted and I think I might’ve enjoyed the down time a bit too much. Between work, vacation and getting my wisdom teeth out it feels like it flew by… yet somehow I don’t remember anything I learned last semester in chemistry. Welp.
And lastly, here’s my workout plan for the week. I’m trying to make the most of the end of my unlimited month of CrossFit which unfortunately coincided with vaca and surgery
Monday: CrossFit
Tuesday: TBD– probably yoga or cycling
Wednesday: CrossFit
Thursday: CrossFit
Friday: cycling + trapeze 🙂
Saturday: TBD- Run or CF
Sunday: Rest
I’m most excited for trapeze as a treat at the end of the first week of school!
What were you all up to this weekend? Any killer workouts? What’s the plan for this week.
