You know you’re in California when you get woken up at 6:30am by a earthquake. Everyone is okay here, just a few books fell off shelves, but it was still pretty freaky to feel.
At least I got to watch the sunrise?
I arrived Saturday night around dinner time so David and I had a low key night hanging out with his parents who are here too, eating dinner at home and we watched the Veronica Mars movie. Unfortunately I fell asleep in the middle of the movie thanks to be on New York time… uh the parts of the movie I saw I really enjoyed!
Yesterday morning I woke up very excited to see the California sun. Oh sweet warm weather, I’ve missed you so.
I was a happy camper sitting on the balcony reading twitter updates on the NYC Half.
David had a meeting after breakfast so I went out on my own to walk and explore for a bit. Los Angeles isn’t exactly know to be pedestrian friendly but I was happy to see a few fitness studios were actually walking distance to where I’m staying. I’m excited to take a few classes later this week and run in this gorgeous weather.
For lunch I stopped at Elderberries, a super cute vegan (and green!) restaurant.
After telling the waitress that it was my first time visiting the restaurant she brought me out their signature elderberry juice and a taste of their kale corn chowder. The chowder was AMAZING, and if it wasn’t so hot outside I would have ordered the full size. Instead I ordered a veggie burger with daiya cheese.
The burger was super tasty and I especially loved the side salad. Whatever dressing they use was sweet but not too sweet and absolutely delicious. I was very impressed with my overall experience– the staff was just lovely and made sure I had a good experience. Two thumbs up for Elderberries.
Back home I had a chill afternoon hanging out with David. Eventually some of his friends came over and we had “afternoon tea” complete with itty bitty sandwiches and scones.
Later on we had dinner at Nobu Matsuhisa. David highly recommended the udon chicken and I was not disappointed. For dessert I got the most ridiculous shaved ice. It looked like a tightly packed snow ball with flavored syrup on the side. Nice and refreshing way to end dinner.
Today I’m going to Disneyland with David and his mom. Of course I’m superrrr excited since I love all things Disney and we always have a blast at Disneyland. I really don’t think I could ever get sick of the happiest place on earth. Tower of Terror here I come 🙂
