First and most importantly, happy mother’s day to my amazing mama.
It’s become a sort of tradition to go see a broadway show as a family on mother’s day. It’s something my parents, big brother and I all can enjoy together. Hedwig and the Angry Inch is probably the most bizarre choice of Mother’s Day shows considering it’s a punk rock musical about a drag queen, but what can I say, my family is a bit bizarre too… and we love Neil Patrick Harris.
I’m so incredibly grateful to have such an amazing mom… I know I can always call her whether it’s to vent about something that happened or because I’m just trying to procrastinate doing homework. I consider her my voice of reason and the person I go to when I need life advice. She’ll always do what she can to help me in any way. While most kids would be less than thrilled to have their parent’s weekend home 2 blocks away, I love having them nearby on the weekends for brunch and hanging out. Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing mother’s and “mother figures” out there!!
Some highlights from the weekend:
–Saturday afternoon I went to Workout in the Park with Self Magazine.
I’ve always wanted to go to Workout in the Park and was super excited when Popchips invited me to attend the event. Jeremy and I didn’t end up heading over to Central Park until a little later in the afternoon but I still got a glimpse of the all the cool things that went on at the even.
For the Tabura class they had an entire African drum crew. The workout reminded me a lot of the African Dance class I was required to take freshmen year of college (yes, required to take).
The coolest thing about the event was looking around you and seeing EVERYONE working out– lunging in unison, squating in unison, y’know african dancing in unison. I loved seeing all these people coming together for the sake of a sweaty sweaty event.
Oh and working out with Bob Harper was pretty cool too.
When Bob Harper tells you to lunge, you lunge.
There were three different workouts going on throughout the event– the MainStage, CrossFit zone and quiet zone with yoga classes. I didn’t try to get into any of the smaller classes (CF and quiet zone) but there’s limited spots. I was content with sticking to the MainStage workouts!
Thanks again to Popchips for inviting me to the event!
–The boy and I spent Saturday night at Barclay’s seeing the Nets vs. the Heat playoff game!
The boy and I have been talking about going to a basketball game all season and I really wanted to see the Heat play. It never worked out during the regular season for one reason or another, but Friday we decided to impulse buy tickets to the Saturday playoff game in Brooklyn.
The energy at the game was INSANE from the drum line outside to the fans screaming inside.
It was a fun night of cheering for both teams since we didn’t really care who won, seeing Lebron be Lebron, and we even got a free t-shirt + towel to commemorate the evening.
— this morning I took my first class at EVF Performance.
EVF is mainly a CrossFit studio but offers a class called “360” which is like CrossFit without the barbells, similar to the B|X class I’ve been taking at Brick. I really enjoyed this mornings class, it was a small Sunday morning crew and the workout reminded me a lot of the bootcamp classes I used to take outdoors. After lots of kettle bell swings, push ups, rowing, and throwing around medicine balls, I was a sweaty sweat beast. Mission accomplished! I’m already looking forward to taking class again in the upcoming weeks.
I’m pretty excited about this upcoming week (minus a final on Wednesday): Tomorrow marks my last chemistry class EVER, say what??? And Friday is my 24th Birthday! I’m still one of those people that gets super excited about their birthday. I’m also super excited about the fact that it’s supposed to be 85 degrees tomorrow, so that’s pretty awesome 🙂
Anyone got something exciting coming up this week? Any birthday buddies out there?
