Happy Birthday to meeee! Even though I’m 24 (holy moly I’m 24) I still love to celebrate birthdays by making them special and do my best to cram in the ultimate day of all my favorite things.
I think my birthday has been a success so far considering I took a trapeze class this morning, got my nails did, had lunch from Peacefoods Cafe, took a class with my favorite instructor at my favorite fitness studio, and now the boy is on his way to the city for Indian food dinner and If/Then on Broadway (of course followed by vegan cheesecake for dessert).
I was worried trapeze was going to get rained out but the rain ended up holding out and I got in a great class. It’s been a while since I’ve flown so my body was a bit “rusty” up in the air, even so I got in some of my strongest swings. Not bad for the first trapeze class of the season.
My best swings ended up being the times I “did less”. I have this tendency in everything I do to “muscle my way into things”, I guess it comes with the territory of being an overachiever. Last night I had a similar issue when I was doing kettlebell deadlifts at The Fhitting Room– I was trying so so hard when really the movement was simpler than I was making it.
Lesson learned, less is more. I tend to overcomplicate things 🙂
At the end of class I ended up catching my layout which has become one of my favorite tricks to do.
Not my best, but it’s only the beginning of summer flying. I can’t wait to get back to weekly trapeze classes now that I won’t have to worry about school work anymore.
In the afternoon I headed over to Uplift for class with my favorite instructor. Yeesh trapeze + Uplift = one sore but incredibly happy Kayla. During the class there are 2 rounds of tabata intervals. During the last tabata round we did “birthday burpees” and the goal was to get to 24 burpees total after 4 rounds.
It may only be 4 minutes long, but it was TOUGH and got my heart rate UP. I am proud to say that I also got all 24 burpees in which was not easy. Tabata intervals are such a “fun” little nugget to add to a strength training workout.
Time to go get ready for dinner + the theater! Hope you all have a lovely weekend!
What’s your perfect birthday?
I’m pretty sure this year and last year are the epitome of my perfect birthday… and they were more or less identical with trapeze + uplift + a broadway show with the boy.

Happy belated birthday! What a great way to spend a birthday with trapeze. I’ve only tried it once, but it was one of my favorite fit things to do. I agree that “less is more”….sometimes we just have to let go and let loose. So jealous you get to go weekly!
