Guess who’s done with chemistry 🙂
Man oh man am I thrilled to say bye bye to the periodic table.
I always thought of myself as the academic type who loves school, but this year taught me that going back to college wasn’t as easy as I anticipated. At this point I crave a more predictable work schedule and am so excited to no longer have to tell people “I can’t, I have to study for a quiz”.
As cheesy as this is to say, taking chemistry this year reminded me a lot of training for my first half marathon in the fall. Both were things I Â seriously struggled with in high school– chemistry was by far my worst (and least favorite) subject, and doing the mile run in gym felt like torture. If you told me at age 16 that I was going to run 13.1 miles AND take college level chemistry, I probably would’ve laughed hysterically.
There were about a million times I wanted to quit chemistry and give up on running the half because they were hard. Something about my brain and chemistry just doesn’t click, and my body was built for trapeze-ing and doing burpees, not necessarily running. But I conquered both and finished what I started. I even ran another half marathon in the spring… here’s where my analogy ends since at this time I plan on staying far away from science for the time being.
I’m still not sure if I will be needing the chemistry course as a prerequisite for whatever I do in the future since I now know I don’t want to be a physical therapist, but either way it taught me a lot about perseverance and definitely challenged my brain.
I took the last final Monday morning and that night it felt so weird to sit back and relax without feeling guilty that IÂ should be doing homework / studying.
My birthday weekend ended up being pretty amazing minus studying all day Sunday.
The weather was beeeautiful Satuday and I got to spend most of the day outside with the boy, our good friend Annica and her boyfriend Liam. We watched the dance parade in the Village and ate Ralph’s Ices on Annica’s roof while looking at the Empire State Building followed by a Broadway show at night. Perfect day if you ask me.
I’m not a fan of Italian Ices usually, but the ices from Ralph’s are out of this world (and worth the dairy-induced belly ache for me…).
All in all can’t complain about the birthday weekend I had, good friends, good food, and some musical theater!

Chemistry was my LEAST favorite subject in school. It was the first time I had ever scored less than a B and it was devastating for me. I still have nightmares about it! I’d rather run multiple marathons than take chemistry all over again.
