L’shana tova to all those celebrating Rosh Hashanah! Religion isn’t something I talk about much here, I’d rather discuss sweaty things, trapeze and musicals. This holiday, though, has got me thinking and reflecting.
Oh hello gorgeous sunset while walking home from work.
Since my senior year of college (holy crap that was fall 2011) I’ve been filling out 10 Q’s as part of Rosh hashana. Much like a time capsule, you fill out the same set of 10 questions once a year, the website saves your answers, then emails you at Rosh Hashanah to look at your old answers and re-answer the questions. The questions aren’t particularly Jewish, just happens to be run by a Jewish organization and is filled out during Rosh hashana every year since it’s the new year.
This time of year feels like the perfect time to reflect– September always meant “back to school” in my head. Even though I’m not in school this year (which is still really weird, I’ve been in school every year of my life except for right now and 2 years ago), I can still feel that energy in my neighborhood thanks to living in a close proximity to the NYU hub. Not to mention the weather suddenly got radically cold compared to how it’s been, thanks for joining us fall.
This summer was a blur of travel (Bermuda and Israel!) and work. Before I knew it, end of August was approaching and I was buying new jeans again instead of cute sundresses. I’ve always had a dislike for fall, camp was my happy place growing up and fall meant I had to wait another 10 months for camp, and I’ve always had a thing for warm weather and wearing Birkenstocks. This year I’m feeling a bit more okay with the colder weather. Reading my old 10 Q answers it’s crazy to think how drastically things have changed– a year ago this holiday fell during my first week of chemistry and biology, two years ago right before I left for my mini move to Los Angeles, and three years ago the scary beginning of senior year. I never in a million years thought I would end up working at a startup, pondering business school.
A lot of my big goals got put on pause this summer since I was traveling and adjusting to full time work, but fall means it’s time to get back to it. It’s time to get serious about taking the GREs (ugh), start looking at improv classes and other performance opportunities (yes, I miss that world a little.) and get back to some healthier habits (cough cough cooking for myself more and going to bed earlier). As much as I’ll miss summer, my favorite cute dresses and of course my beloved birkenstocks, I’m ready to get back to it again.
What time of year do you usually stop and reflect?

Happy New Year! I love the idea of 10 Q’s — it must be really interesting to look back each year. I live and work near several college campus, and work always picks up this time of year, so it seems like fall will forever feel like “back to school” time. I love taking some time to reset, revisit goals and plans for the year ahead, and look back on the past 12 months. 🙂

It’s super interesting to look at my 2011 answers! Fall is the best time of year to reflect.

Happy New Year! Fall is a great time to reflect and refocus. I want to spend part of today doing just that. 🙂

Thank you! Something about the fall just gets you thinking about everything!
