After work today I headed up to Time Square for a special event with Puma for the launch of the new Ignite running sneakers
It’s not every day you get to run in the middle of Time Square on a treadmill, eh? It’s a miracle I didn’t fall on my face or hurt myself considering I haven’t run much at all in the past 6 months. The quick sprint today definitely whet my appetite to finally commit to a spring half marathon. Better late than never!
To be honest, I haven’t felt like running since the Oakley Mini 10K in June. So much so that I dropped out of the Hartford Half marathon just because I didn’t feel like training. I wasn’t craving a good, long, sweaty run. During the summer I was having far too much fun taking every fitness class ever in Manhattan, in the fall I ended up participating in Uplift’s Challenge and then it got cold.
Suddenly I feel ready again. I adore the actual routine and regiment of half marathon training– my workout week is well thought out, every workout is there for a reason, and I get to stick to a formula for the perfect ratio of running to strength training. For someone like me that likes routine it works really well. Now that my life is a bit more predictable with my new job always starting and ending at the same time every single day, I’m ultra ready to stick to a plan.
I also really miss that feeling of working towards a fitness goal. Yes, I have butt loads of other goals in my life (one of which is to crush it at my new job…) but right now I’m at a loss for fitness goals beyond 3 pull-ups and actually making it to 6:30AM yoga on Tuesdays. Shaving a few minutes off my half marathon PR though? Hardcore fitness goal.
I spent far too much time this morning researching which half marathon I should run and still can’t decided. Right now it’s between MORE Fitness Half in Central Park, Stratton Faxon Fairfield and Walkway Over the Hudson.
MORE Fitness Half– April 19th.
Pro: NYC race so super easy to get to from my apartment. Race day weather will be moderate in April
Con: Training will be mainly during the winter months. Race course is 2 loops around Central Park which just sounds awful. I would also have to start training ASAP.

I’m looking for spring halfs too! I think I’m going to do the Delaware Half on May 10th I believe. I also want to do the Rutgers Half on April 12, since it’s 30 minutes from my house. Don’t think I’ll be in PR shape by then or anything but I’ve been wanting to run that race for a while. I’m also debating on the MORE one…2 loops in Central Park? Idkkkkk

Ugh I know, right? I want to do MORE in theory, but that course, oof!!
Even if you’re not in PR shape, always still fun to get out there and conquer 13.1!

Catching up on this week’s blog posts after a busy few days in grad school! It’s awesome that you are planning on another half-marathon; I always enjoy hearing about people’s progress in training and racing. I agree, there is no fitness goal or adrenaline rush quite like crushing a PR.
Since you said you haven’t been running much, I would probably shoot for one of the June races…that will give you time to build up a good running base and really focus on picking up speed. I’m in training for half #3 right now with the goal of a sub-2:00 finish (after dropping my time from 2:17 to 2:05). I’m running more mileage and doing dedicated speedwork for the first time ever, so it’s intense, but I’m enjoying it! Good luck with your training, looking forward to hearing about it!

Best of luck training and crushing sub 2:00– I ran my second one in 2:17 so maybe there’s hope for me some day 🙂
Which half are you training for?
Kristen says
I’m running the Kentucky Derby half in Louisville on April 25!

Best of luck!!!

I’m doing the Walkway over the Hudson. I agree that new races are a bit scary. It took a bunch of tries to finally register on their website (which could only be corrected by me calling them to register). Also you’d have more time to train!
Kayla says
Yeah I’m thinking it’s too little too late for MORE since I haven’t started training. My biggest concern is June races being hot as hell but I might risk it, Walkway over the hudson sounds like it could be a good race
