How was your weekend? Besides attending the Ketanga Fitness Krawl where I went to 3 studios in 1 morning (more on that later this week!) It was super lazy which is exactly what I needed
I think I over did it last week.
To the best of my ability I try to leave at least one weeknight open so I can simply “veg out” which really means do laundry, cook, watch HGTV and blog. It keeps me sane and gives me a chance to catch my breath. That day didn’t happen last week, and even over the past few weeks I’ve been feeling like I’m burning the candle from both ends trying to do it all.
Doing it all is not possible though, and I always learn this the hard way. My eye has been twitching for the last 2 months (yes, I should really get this checked out, no I don’t have time right now) and I took a nap yesterday. I never ever ever take naps so that’s proof of just how tired I was.
One of my theater teachers in college urged me to say yes more and volunteer for everything. I’ve taken this advice close to heart because it forces me out of my very small comfort zone. It also back fires because I can’t say yes to everything. I can’t work full time, attend media events, maintain a blog, be a halfway decent girlfriend, take improv classes, workout 5-6 days a week, see Broadway shows and sleep. It’s nice in theory, not possible in reality.
My parents reminded me that I need to prioritize. Obviously work comes first and after that it’s about picking and choosing what’s really important to me while also knowing when to say no. It’s hard because I WANT TO DO ALL THE THINGS.
This week should be a little less crazy though (I hope!) and I’m excited to go home over the weekend for the holidays. As much as I love NYC I can definitely use a change of pace and haven’t left this island in a long long time at this point.
Here’s what’s going down in food + fitness land this week:
Recipes
-ye old faithful cheezy coconut sautéed chickpeas + kale (I make it literally every week and still love it!)
– chickpea omelets from “But I Could Never Go Vegan”
-savory overnight quinoa oatmeal also from “But I Could Never Go Vegan.
It looks kinds of gross so fingers crossed it becomes a delicious lunch when I heat it up! Will post the recipe if it’s a hit.
For the record, I could never go vegan despite the cookbook, but really like cooking vegan since I’m squeamish about cooking raw meat. It also forced me to branch out since chicken can get super boring sometimes. At the end of the day I love chicken korma and salmon rolls far too much to ever go vegan though.
I will of course also be eating all the matzo balls on Friday + Saturday night 🙂
Workouts:
Monday: Strength at Uplift Studios
Tuesday: Soul Cycle
Wednesday: Cardio kick boxing at Equinox
Thursday: REST
Friday: Strength at Uplift Studios
Saturday: TBD in Westchester- Yoga or megaformer
Sunday: TBD in Westchester (maybe run if the weather is good!)
Fingers crossed the weather warms up a bit by the weekend so I can run on the trails nearby my parents house.
Question: What do you do when you feel over scheduled?
What’s your fitness + meal plan for the week?
Lauren says
Great advice! Sometimes we do say yes to too many things and we need at least one night of rest. Thanks for sharing!
