Remember New Years resolutions?
This year I decided to take a different approach to resolutions. Instead of trying to do all the things at once, and subsequently failing, I broke up my lengthy list of resolutions. Every 2 months or so I would conquer a few more resolutions on the list and check-in on how the old ones were doing too.
To recap, my 2015 resolutions:
- Yoga once a week
- run the NYC marathon
- do 3 pull-ups
- independent trapeze take-off
- take the GREs
- plan out my grad school applications
- perform on stage at least once
- bring lunch to work 4 days a week
- go to bed long before midnight
- read before going to bed every night
- stay in touch
- blog more
My first batch of resolutions was go to yoga once a week, get 3 pull-ups, bring lunch to work more and blog more. Minus the 3 pull-ups I’m still doing pretty well with all of these!
My brussel sprouts + apples + chicken sausage lunch were a hit at work this week
In February I added to the mix reading before bed. I’ll admit this is something I’m still not perfect about, sometimes I’m just too tired to function, other times I end up bringing my laptop into bed to answer a few more emails. I’ll say it was a 90% success rate which isn’t too shabby! Reading really good books certainly helps– I couldn’t wait to snuggle up with Big Little Lies every night!
Saturday I’m going to check off perform on stage. I’ve been taking improv classes once a week for the last 8 weeks at The PITÂ and Saturday night is our grad show! I’m pretty sure it’s the first time I’ve performed on stage since I graduated from college so I’m pretty pumped. Taking improv classes was SUCH a good decision for me. It’s been a really fun, stress free treat on Tuesday nights and reminded me how much I miss acting.
I also signed up for the NYC Marathon. Which means I’m inevitably going to run it 🙂
For these next few months I’m going to focus on going to bed early and my independent take off at trapeze.
I started setting an alarm for 10:30PM on week nights which signifies I should start getting ready for bed. Jeremy made fun of me that I have a bedtime alarm, but I swear it’s helpful! I know I can’t be in bed early every night, like Monday when I was at a concert until 11PM, however on nights when I’m just lounging around watching HGTV it’s a friendly reminder to wash my face and snuggle up with a book.
Warm weather means trapeze season which means time to work on my independent take off! For those of you that don’t speak trapeze, the take off is that moment when you jump off the board. At this point I need an instructor to hold onto my belt for safety, but the goal is to not need that. My plan is to get back to my usual once a week classes now that the outdoor rig is open and work on my take-off. It’s one of my biggest weakness when it comes to flying and now is the time to get rid of my bad habits.
Already signed up for my first class of the season this weekend and I’m SO excited!
Question: Are you still working on your New Years Resolution? How’s it going so far?Â
Leah says
The bedtime alarm is brilliant! I’m setting one now.

I think you should start doing push-ups first, which will provide some strenth to your arms. After that you can try pull-ups.
Kayla says
It’s funny, my push-ups are fine and all other things that require upper body strength I’m usually good at— just that pesky pull up!
