Talking about resolutions in July feels very, very wrong, but imma go ahead and do it because it’s time for Resolution Check-in #3. January 1st I created a list of goals/ resolutions for the new year. I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that I have a tendency to promptly forget about these goals within a minute of writing them down, or in my case publishing them on the internet.
I decided to actually take my resolutions seriously this year and marked down a few self check-in dates throughout the year in my calendar. Setting check-ins not only reminds me of the resolutions I set but also allows me to reevaluate and adjust based on my current needs. While many things have not changed since January 1st, obviously quite a few big things have.
Instead of trying to conquer all my resolutions at once I am only taking on a few at a time with the ultimate plan of (hopefully!) implementing each of my resolutions by the end of 2015.
Currently working on…
|| Yoga once a week. So far so good! There’s been a few weeks when it just didn’t happen, but for the most part I’m now in the groove and look forward to my weekly yoga class. I even think I might up the ante to 2 yoga classes a week once I’m in the heat of marathon training… but let’s not get too ahead of ourselves 🙂
|| 3 Pull-ups. Ugh. Still riding the struggle bus on this one. It doesn’t take much effort for me to be motivated to work out. Feeling motivated to practice pull-ups though? No thank you. I met with a personal trainer a Blink earlier this month and worked on a few moves meant to help my pull up.
The hard part is that I’m rarely near a pull-up bar. For the record, I did try to install one in my apartment a few years back but couldn’t find one that would work with my doorways.
I’m not giving up on these pull-ups quite yet and am making a pact with myself to work on my assisted pull-up, negatives, and jump + holds whenever I’m in the presence of a pull-up bar. After attending classes at MHRC I am also going to force myself to head over to Blink for some practice. It’s literally on the way home so I might as well.
If anyone has any tips for pull-ups I’m all ears (and back muscle apparently, look at that pic!)
|| Bring lunch to work more. I cheated and started working from home :). Same rule applies though, I’ve been cooking lunch for myself almost every day unless I’m already out and about. Avocado toast = lunch basically every day.
|| Blog More. Aww yeah been crushing this one lately.
|| Reading before bed. Would say I’m about 90% good about this and the other 10% is usually because I’m just too tired to even read a page.
|| Going to bed early. I also kind of cheated with this one since I’m no longer waking up nearly as early as I used to have to. It’s amazing what a difference waking up at 6/6:30AM makes versus 5/5:30AM. I still try to respect the bed time alarm to the best of my ability… but have definitely stayed up a bit later than even I usually do recently.
|| Independent take off. For those of you that don’t speak trapeze, an independent take off means no one is holding me when I jump off the board. It’s the weakest part of my flying and something I’m constantly working on. At class last week I got the okay to start taking off independently though. The only thing is, it scared the crap out of me for some reason. So I’m over the first half of the battle which is fixing my takeoff… but now I have to stop being a weeny.
So what’s left?
Yoga once a weekrun the NYC marathon(in progress)- do 3 pull-ups
- independent trapeze take-off
- take the GREs
- plan out my grad school applications
perform on stage at least oncebring lunch to work 4 days a weekgo to bed long before midnightread before going to bed every night- stay in touch

I’ll be honest… Studying for the GRE’s during these gorgeous summer months doesn’t sound too enticing. I’m going to hold off on that bad boy until the weather is cold and I’m okay with spending my free time cooped up inside.
Right now I’m going to just maintain all of the above. Keep on keeping on. Totally lame update, I know, but I’m actually kind of shocked how much of the list I already accomplished or at the very least is underway.
What goals / resolutions are you currently working on?

I love yoga so much! I actually haven’t done it in a while and need to get back into doing it every day. It is truly so relaxing and makes me feel so good! x, kenz
