It’s really weird to do a 10 mile run and know I still have so much more training left to go.
Going into this run I was not feeling it. I didn’t think I was ready to run that many miles. Summer Streets made the run surprisingly enjoyable. For three Saturdays in August, Manhattan shuts down Lafayette / 4th Avenue / Park Avenue (yes that’s all the same avenue) from 72nd Street all the way down to the Brooklyn bridge. It’s basically a runner’s heaven.
The route worked out perfectly. I started near my apartment in the Village, ran all the way up to the turn-around at 72nd, back down to the Brooklyn Bridge and finished off the loop a tiny bit further north than where I started for 10 miles total. I would guess the entire loop is roughly 9.5 miles.
It was really nice to not have to dodge cars or the usual hoards of tourists on the West Side Highway. Instead, I was able to just focus on running and keeping my legs moving the entire time.
After a desperately needed shower and stuffing my face with guacamole at brunch, I spent the rest of my afternoon with Jeremy relaxing in the pool at my parent’s apartment.
It felt SO good and I’m convinced floating around in the water helped with recovery. My legs don’t feel sore today which is kind of shocking considering I ran for 2 hours yesterday. Hey, I ain’t complaining.
I never thought I’d say this but I feel hungry for more right now. Conquering this 10 miles run got me excited to do more and continue to challenge myself to do things I don’t think I can do. The training plan I’ve been following has been a mixture of what Team in Training recommends and Hal Higdon’s beginner marathon plan. One called for 7 miles next weekend, the other says 11. I’m going for the 11 because why not 🙂
This Week’s Plan:
MONDAY: Exceed (1 hour HIIT)

WEDNESDAY: Yoga + Trapeze
THURSDAY: High 45 @ MHRC
FRIDAY: Strength at Uplift
SATURDAY: LONG RUN- 11 miles
SUNDAY: Rest.
