Ever since I was 8 years old and started writing my first diary (I was destined to become a blogger one day!), I’ve always made New Year Resolutions on January 1st. Last year was no different, and I will do the same this year. Obviously my hopes and dreams at age 25 are a bit different than they were at age 8, I still love resolutions just the same.
So, how did I do this year?
Smiling my way through the NYC Marathon. Definitely the highlight of 2015 🙂
- do more yoga: I’ve been going to yoga roughly once a week all year. My current work schedule and Yoga Vida being added to FitReserve has made it really easy for me to take class before work.
- run the NYC Marathon: I think the whole world knows by now that I successfully ran a marathon 🙂
- do 3 pull-ups: Ugh. This has been a goal of mine since I started taking trapeze classes back in 2009. I sadly haven’t made progress and put this on the back burner thanks to marathon training and lack of gym membership.
- independent take off: (this means jumping off the platform without someone holding me at trapeze) I made some great strides this summer thanks to flying consistently and some super amazing instructors, but then it got too cold for outside classes and now I don’t get to fly as often.
- take the GREs: Nope, but I did decide to take the GMAT, sold my GRE books and started studying for the GMATs. That’s something!
- plan out grad school applications: I have more of an idea of when I want to go to grad school, and committing to taking the GMAT obviously means I decided I want to go to business school. Yup, the girl with a BFA in Theater wants an MBA. I have a better plan than I did at the end of 2014.
- perform on stage at least once: done! Performed as part of the improv class I took’s graduation show.
- bring lunch to work almost every day: I started off strong with this one, then lost my job so was home for lunch most days, then started a job that had free lunch options… and now I’m at my new job where I’ve made lunch maybe twice. Fail.
- go to bed long before midnight: sometimes I did! Setting a bedtime alarm for 10:30PM helped a lot, it’s a friendly reminder to stop what I’m doing and start getting ready for bed.
- read before going to bed: 99.9% success, even if it was sometimes only 2 pages because I was so freaken exhausted.
- stay in touch: I didn’t have a formal plan of action for this one nor a way to measure if it happened. This year I reconnected with a few friends from my past and made the effort to catch up over dinner. It’s was hilarious to be like, so I haven’t seen you since high school… how was college?
It’s tough sometimes to see all my friends as much as I would love to, we all lead busy lives and can only make so many dinner plans in one week. I’m not perfect about keeping in touch but have gotten better about reaching out to friends I haven’t seen in a while and making an effort to keep friendships going.
- blog more: Did it! Looking back on all the content I wrote in 2015, I had a moment of wow, I wrote a lot more than I thought I did and am proud of the content I created.
Obviously a year can’t totally be summed up in the resolutions I accomplished… or didn’t accomplish.
At the end of last year I couldn’t be very vocal about my job aspirations, but that was a really huge personal focus of mine for the first 6 months of the year. Even though it wasn’t one of my “official” resolutions I shared with the world, I knew more above anything, I wanted to end 2015 in a happier job situation than where I finished off 2014, and that I definitely accomplished.
I also accomplished things this year that I didn’t even realize were goals of mine like learning photoshop and conquering my fear of a trapeze trick I’ve been avoiding.
You can hate on resolutions all you want, but I’ll continue to make them because I find they give me an extra little push to accomplish a few things I might not have otherwise.
Would love to hear about how 2015 went for you and what things your hoping to accomplish in 2016
Cheers to 2016 and stay tuned for another round of resolution making, because yes I love resolutions.

I LOVE your idea of a bedtime alarm! I want to work on establishing a better bed time so this is such a great idea to help me stop what I am caught up in and hop in bed 🙂

I’m def a believer in New Years Resolutions and I love yours! Sounds like you did a great job in 2015. I love that while you didn’t accomplish 3 pull ups, you ran a marathon…hmm which one sounds harder? In my 30 under 30 list one goal was to run a faster mile and another was to run a marathon. I was too lazy to work towards ONE fast mile and instead went for the 26.2, ha!
Did you take a photoshop course? That’s one of my to-dos for 2016, I was looking at GA but would love to hear if you have a recommendation!

Ha I agree, marathon totally beats pull-ups! I think 26.2 miles sounds much cooler than one fast mile.
I did my photoshop course through A Beautiful Mess. A lot of it is photo focused more so than “graphic design” and what I use for work + blogging, but all the tips and tricks totally translate. I highly recommend it!
