I’ve been really wanting to make a vision board for 2016, but knew I wouldn’t sit down and take the time to do it on my own. To say I’ve been busy lately with work, blogging, GMAT studying, daily errands and attempting to be a good friend + girlfriend would be an understatement. 2016 is off to an overwhelming start but so it goes.
I invited a few of my close girlfriends over for an evening of goal setting + arts and crafts (okay and a little bit of booze). I wasn’t sure if it was something my friends would be into, I know not everyone is all into resolutions like I am. After sending out a few feelers to the friends I thought would be especially skeptical, I was surprised by the resounding YES DO IT from everyone. Who can say no to arts and crafts with a side of soul searching?
It ended up being a ton of fun and everyone got something out of it. If you haven’t already done so, I highly recommend making a vision board. It’s not only fun to do some arts and crafts but is also oddly relaxing. Seriously, when is the last time you used a glue stick?
Not sure what to do? Here are some vision board ideas to get you started.
How To Create A Vision Board
IDEA #1: Use a theme for the year. I love the idea of having a word of the year to focus on and it’s a great alternative for those that dislike resolutions. Keep that word in mind while thumbing through magazines and also write it out in the middle of the board as a friendly but bold reminder. Some ideas I’ve heard from friends: fearless, flexibility, now, connect, more.
IDEA #2: Each corner has a theme. Have a ton of things you want to focus on this year? Devote each corner of your vision board to a compartment of your life such as career, wellness, spirituality, relationships and personal.
IDEA #3: In 2016 I will… Use this as a prompt to get you started. Do you want to travel? Skydive? Learn how to juggle? Kick ass and take names? Put it on the vision board.
IDEA #4: All photos or words. It was funny making my vision board in a group of friends. We each had totally different styles of how we curated our boards, all somewhat reflective of our personalities. Some of us gravitated more towards inspirational words and quotes, others only cut out images and pictures.
Idea #5: Just wing it. At the end of the day it’s a collage. I spent some time thinking about the goals I already laid out for 2016 and know there were a few key things I wanted to cover.
Jeremy commented that my board came out rather “GIRL POWER!” which wasn’t on purpose at all, I ended up gravitating towards those kinds of quotes. As cheesy as it sounds, I think I was totally invigorated by being surrounded by a group of some of my closest friends, the girls that have given me solid advice about all aspects of my life and I was so excited that they were down to make vision boards with me while talking about life and stuff. And maybe I’ve been reading a few too many books like #GirlBoss. Jokes.
Now go, grab some glue sticks, scissors and magazines and show me your vision boards!

Love this! I used to make vision boards all of the time and I really enjoyed it. This year, I got together with one of my best girlfriends and talked about our goals over coffee. Less visually appealing, but definitely worth it! That said, I have been saving random mag clippings so maybe I’ll make a mini board before the month is out.

That’s basically what every dinner with girlfriends turns into for me 🙂 Totally still worth it and helpful!

Ahh so fun! I think I’m going to do this this week! I’ve been in a bit of a funk over the past week or so, and I think this might be just what I need!
