I was SO excited when New Balance reached out to me about their new apparel line focused on studio workouts. As you know, group fitness is kind of my thing and 100% of my workouts these days. Earlier this week I was invited to test out a few items from the studio line during a Lithe Method class.
Outfit Details:
studio tight in multi
strappy seamless bra in black
studio cami in black with white
NB Studio Skin shoes in shell pink
I literally squealed when I saw the stirrup leggings, I totally have a thing for stirrups and love the pattern on these. They’re the perfect blend of functional and athleisure, you can totally get away with wearing them out and about matched with a cute top but also survived a super sweaty workout. I ended up wearing them all day after the class because they were so comfy and why bother taking off comfy pants? They also have a small stick pad at the bottom for extra grip which you’re taking class.
The star of the show was the Studio Skin shoes. In theory they remind me of lyrical shoes I used to wear in dance class aka foot undies. The design on the Studio Skins mimic kinesio tape to offer light support. The ball of the foot is lightly padded and has silicon for extra traction. I’ll get into the full class review in a second 🙂 but these shoes were perfect for Lithe Method and are a great alternative to sticky socks.
Not pictured but my other favorite clothing piece from the studio line is the Shadow Jacket. It’s like a hot little bomber jacket… but in performance fabric. Adding it to my birthday wish list 🙂
Lithe Method Class Review
So, I totally thought Lithe Method would be this chill, sweat-free pilates class. Oh god, I was SO wrong. The class was not pilates but instead Cardio Cheer Sculpt. Honestly, that sounds more up my alley than pilates, I like anything remotely dance-y.
The class was taught by the creator, Lauren Boggi. She’s a pint sized ball of encouraging energy. I remember Lithe Method from while I was working at ClassPass. When they launched Philly it was all I heard about. I can totally see why they have a loyal following, this class is so much fun, hard and unlike anything else I’ve experienced.
The first half of the class was the cardio cheer portion and used those bands in the picture above. The bands were strapped to our wrist for the whole first half while we jumped around doing things like high-v’s and low-v’s, jumping jacks and tuck jumps. It was deceptively difficult and I felt a tiny bit spastic, but was having too much fun to care. At the end of the section we strung together all the moves we had already done into a little dance combination.
The second half was more sculpt focused and took place at the barre with a ton of lower body and core work. There was a lot of pulsing, lunging and releve-ing. My legs were seriously shaking by the end.
Sweaty cardio plus shake worthy barre moves? Awesome workout in my book. I was a sweaty beast at the end of class, which I totally wasn’t expecting.
Thanks New Balance + Lithe Method for an awesome event.

I’d never heard of Lithe Method until reading about it here! Sigh – yet another thing to add to the list.
Your outfit here is adorable!

Thanks so much! I only knew about them thanks to working at ClassPass, fingers crossed they start offering classes in NYC soon

Do you know when they officially open in NYC? They were first slated to open fall 2012 but then Sandy. Their mindbody has “no classes scheduled” for the next several weeks.
Kayla says
SAY WHAT, I didn’t know that they were supposed to open in 2012! I did see their “NYC” part of the website. Hmmmm….
Leah says
Yup. I was so excited- it was supposed to be on 19th street and then… That b*tch Sandy. After so long I figured they just gave up on it but your post and the fact that they have the ny section makes me think it might still happen.

Would you recommend the studio skins for yoga?
Kayla says
I personally don’t have issues with my feet slipping in yoga nor do I need the extra support, however if these are issues you have they might be great for you! I personally like them for classes you would otherwise wear sticky socks during.
