It feels so weird to be back after a 2-week vacation. While I had such a fun time in LA, it’s always good to be back home. For starters, I cooked dinner for the first time in over a month. I’m also happy to return to a sense of routine after not being on any sort of a schedule while I was away.
So, what did I do while I was in LA? I mean, besides eat a ton of vegan food…
I worked out. A lot.
As a fitness junkie and fitness blogger I was SO excited to check out as many fitness studios as I possibly could while I was in LA. I debated signing up for ClassPass for awhile and ended up signing up for the month so I could save money and book classes more easily during my trip. If you’re newer to the blog you might not know this, but I worked at ClassPass for a year during it’s early stages. I haven’t been a member since I stopped working there so it was interesting to see how the website and platform has changed and evolved.
Not to turn this into a ClassPass review, but I was disappointed that you could only sign up for 4 classes at a time. I didn’t end up hitting up all the studios I had wanted to since they filled up before I was able to book a class. Even so, I was able to take 9 classes total and I saved a fair amount of money.
Classes I took in Los Angeles:
- Training Mate x2
- Supraformer at Lagree Fitness Studio
- Platefit x2
- The Climb at Rise Nation
- Signature Lit at Lit Method
- Strength at Uplift Studios
- The Mash-Up at Fitmix
Reviews coming soon, promise 🙂
As you know I’m obsessed with Uplift and I was SO freaken excited to check out their LA studio. The location is perfect in West Hollywood and I got to take class with Leslie who moved to LA last year. I’ve missed her killer class in NYC so much and was reduced to a puddle of sweat. Thank god for filtering because I’m actually drenched in sweat in this photo.
I saw a lot of theater.
David and I are both theater nerds so we always try to find great shows to see when we’re together either in NYC or LA. We ended up seeing 4 shows during my vacation, which was awesome. We saw a really interesting somewhat modernized version of Hair, The Mystery of Love and Sex (with Mae Whitman!!) at the Mark Taper Forum, Women Laughing Alone and Eating Salad at the Kirk Douglas, and Casa Valentina at the Pasadena Playhouse.
My favorite was hands down Women Laughing Alone and Eating Salad. It was born from the popular meme that makes fun of the ridiculous stock photos of, you guessed it, women laughing while eating salad. As someone who works in marketing and has encountered a ton of terrible stock photography, I found the commentary in this show about marketing and the ridiculous things women do to feel attractive so interesting. Highly recommend seeing it before it closes if you’re in the LA area.
I saw a lot of friends.
My network of friends in Los Angeles has grown over the years and it was awesome to catch up with friends from my birthright trip, sleep away camp and even my boyfriend’s best friend who recently moved out there (he also happens to be one of my best friend’s brother).
It was also of course amazing to spend 2 weeks staying with my bestie David and we spent much of our time together laughing hysterically and quoting show tunes as always.
Got caught up on Girls and obsessed with RuPaul’s Drag Race.
David introduced me to the TV show Girls before it even aired years ago. He had special access to the first 3 episodes which we watched together and instantly fell in love with the show. Besides Silicon Valley, Girls is the only TV I keep up with these days so it was nice to get to watch the newest episodes with David and have someone to discuss with.
During this trip David introduced me to RuPaul’s Drag Race. Everyone’s been telling me I would love it since I love America’s Next Top Model. I’m officially obsessed and already have a few favorites on the show. Anyone else watch?
I worked.
Contrary to popular belief, it wasn’t all fun in games in LA and I was technically working while I was there. I did my best to take my work outside and soak up the sun as much as possible.
My LA “office” view.
I relaxed.
Relaxing ain’t easy for me, I’m an intense, go, go, go person, in case you haven’t noticed and leading up to this vacation I was totally fried after a really stressful winter. Being away for so long literally forced me to relax because I had to go with the flow and abandon my usual schedule. So maybe I didn’t read or write nearly as much as I had wanted to, however I did have the chance to relax and most important recharge.
And that about sums up my 2-weeks in LA. Oh and of course we went to Disneyland.
