Fashion I’m Loving…
Black, slip-on shoes
The second the weather gets even a little bit warm I get a SERIOUS case of spring fever. I’ve been dying to wear these black, slip-on shoes from J Slide since I got them at Shoegasm in December. I still need to break them in a bit more, but oh my god I’m obsessed and love them with yoga pants and joggers, which brings me to…
Joggers
I’ll argue that joggers are even more comfortable than yoga pants because they are baggy :). I got a great pair from The Gap last fall and am a total jogger convert and think they are perfect for the awkward almost spring weather we’ve been happening (until this weekend when it got really cold again). I’m looking to get a few more pairs if anyone has suggestions of where to find great joggers for short people.
Le Pliage Longchamp Bag, Large
Simple Skin Care kindly gifted me a new Longchamp bag as part of their recent “choose your own adventure” campaign. Since receiving my first Longchamp bag as a high school graduation gift (I still use this bag all the time!) I love using these bags for travel. I’m not a light packer so typically pack my computer stuff in a backpack and my makeup, medication, toiletries and books in my Longchamp.
The large Le Pliage was perfect and roomy for travel and it was great to have the extra storage room– I typically bring a much smaller carry on bag. It also doubled as my “weekend” bag for my three day stay in Disneyland and ironically my friend brought the same exact bag for our trip too. Definitely the perfect travel companion!
Food I’m Loving…
Poke
If you love sushi and haven’t had poke, imma ’bout to CHANGE YOUR LIFE. Think of it as Hawaiian Chipotle with raw fish. Okay maybe don’t think about Chipotle and raw fish in the same sentence, but you get the gist.
Essentially you get to create your own rice bowl and add a ton of fun toppings (which vary depending on which poke restaurant you’re at). I can’t believe I’ve never had poke before this month… but I swear I’m making up for lost time and ate ALL the poke this month. Which is pronounced poh-kay. So far in NYC I’ve only been to Wisefish. For lunch it can get a little crazy, I waited for over 20 minutes, but for dinner it’s a lot less crowded.
I still have to try the other poke spots in NYC. Poke tour, anyone?
Superseedz Pumpkin Seeds from Starbucks
I spent a lot of time working in Starbucks while I was in LA. While not everything they offer is remotely healthy, they have stepped up their snack game and I’m now totally obsessed with these pumpkin seeds. No weird ingredients and less then 150 calories in a pack. My favorite so far is the sea salt flavored pack.
Beauty Products I’m Loving…
Eyeliner from Stowaway
Makeup is not my area of expertise by any means. Seriously, if someone wants to teach me how to do really basic, every day makeup, you’ll be my hero.
I recently found out about Stowaway and I’m now a huge fan of their brown eyeliner. Yes, I use brown eyeliner because black feels too severe for me. The eyeliner glides on easily and has been a godsend to my morning routine because I no longer feel like I hot mess trying to put eyeliner on.
Stowaway is all about creating makeup in the “right size” so you can actually finish a tube of mascara before it gets all gross and crusty. Bonus, everything is perfectly purse size as well.
What I Read…
Opening Belle by Maureen Sherry
First, I’m really ashamed to admit I only finished one book in March. I thought I’d read a ton in LA… but then I was SO exhausted most nights from the time change and staying up past my usual bedtime.
I read about Opening Belle from The Skimm, which always has great book recommendations, by the way. The book is written by an ex-investment banker and is a super interesting look into what it’s like to be not only a female but also a busy mother in the business world. I’m totally into this “can women have it all” genre of chic-lit lately.
My biggest issue with the book was some of the business jargon went way over my head (yes I took the GMAT, but I also have a BFA in theater). It didn’t matter too much though and I was totally engrossed in the world of hedge funds which I know nothing about.
I feel like I’m in a fiction lull now and haven’t been able to find any books I’m totally into since finishing this book. What’s on your reading list right now?
What I Watched…
Master of None on Netflix
I can’t believe I forgot to mention this last month. I don’t typically “marathon” TV shows on Netflix, but Jeremy and I watched almost of all Aziz Ansari’s Master of None in one weekend because it’s SO addicting. The TV show is essentially little vignettes about life in NYC for Dev, a commercial actor. From what I gather, it’s somewhat biographical based on Aziz and his friend Alan’s life.
The writing is downright BRILLIANT on Master of None, a perfect mixture of hilarious yet also smart and thought provoking. I’m so excited that Aziz confirmed there will be a second season.
King and I on Broadway
My treat to myself after taking the GMAT was finally seeing The King and I at Lincoln Center. I saw the previous revival in the late 90’s and knew a ton of the music from singing the songs with my voice teacher growing up. I didn’t expect to love it as much as I did though. Kelli O’hara is basically a Broadway goddess and I will happily pay to watch her sing just about anything, because I can guarantee she will make it spectacular.
Bartlet Sher also directed the recent revival of South Pacific and seriously has a gift with bring old musical back to life.
Lincoln Center offers great discount tickets to those ages 23-35Â through LincTix. I can’t believe I didn’t know about this sooner.
Other Random Thoughts…
Thredup

Anyone else been doing some spring cleaning lately? About a month or so ago I did a huge overhaul of my closet. While I love my apartment, the downside of living here for more than 5 years is I’ve accumulated way too much junk… in particular clothing.
With the help of my very patient mother, I went through all my drawers and my closet to get rid of the stuff I haven’t worn in recent years. I kept meaning to take the hug bags of clothing to Beacon’s Closet nearby to see if it was worth anything… but laziness got the better of me.
After finding out about Thredup I used them to make a little bit of money off my old clothes. They send you a huge, pre-laballed bag to collect the goods, you send it back and in turn make a little bit of money. It was honestly such a relief to get the clothes out of my apartment the money was a nice little bonus.
You have the option of either “cashing out” via PayPal or using that money to buy other stuff on the website. It’s pretty brilliant.
Vroman’s in Pasadena
I haven’t had a chance to mention Vroman’s in my LA recaps, so why not talk about it here? Vroman’s is a huge bookstore in Pasadena. I can spend hours in bookstores perusing around and did just that before seeing a show in Pasadena.
I was so impressed with the size of the store, especially considering how few bookstores are left in the world. Throughout the store there were little placards with book recommendations from the staff which gave the large bookstore a homey, mom and pop feel. I’m always happy to support amazing bookstores and felt like I had to mention this gem somewhere on the blog.
