It feels like forever ago I made my 2016 resolutions (uh and I made even more a month later). At the time my brain was GMAT GMAT GMAT work GMAT GMAT GMAT and I couldn’t yet see the light at the end of the tunnel of studying. I knew I wanted to accomplish a lot of things in 2016, I just couldn’t even wrap my head around what those things were at the time.
Coming back to NYC after my extended vacation in LA felt like starting a new chapter. I’m no longer studying during every waking hour I’m not working. It feels weird. As timing would have it, I also came home to find out that what was my full time job has now become a part time position, so I literally have more free time than I’ve had in a while.
I love my friend Sam’s way of creating small, monthly goals. Every month I will create a new list of small, attainable goals and things I’m focusing on plus I’ll check in on how everything went during the previous month.
As I learned last year, and am continuing to learn this year with the new job situation, it’s hard to predict what will happen over the course of a year. Some goals make stick, but sometimes new goals arise out of necessity.
Find routine in chaos. I’ve always been one of those people that the busier I am, the more productive I am. It doesn’t always make sense, but time and time again it proves to be true.
I know I shouldn’t complain but having a ton of free time is daunting and I’m worried about staying productive with my new schedule. For this month, as I get used to this massive change, I’m going to work on finding a sense of routine even in the chaos. This means continuing to wake up early to work out even if I don’t have anywhere to be, and using this time to do blog things and job searching.
Cook lunch and dinner if I’m home. I think I went the entire month of March without cooking. Yikes. At the beginning of the year I made it my goal to bring lunch to work 3 days a week. The truth is, I hate bringing lunch to work because it means I won’t leave my desk all day. I look forward to lunch because it’s also the time I get to go outside, get some fresh air and move my legs.
Since I’ll be working from home more often than not, my goal is to make lunch and dinner on days that I’m home.
Learn how to use my DSLR camera. Free time means time to finally learn how to use my camera! I will be using this course from A Beautiful Mess. I had a really great experience with the photoshop course from A Beautiful Mess so am sure I’ll be a camera pro (or at least not totally clueless) in no time.
Blog 3+ times a week. Hold me to it!
Your turn: What are your goals for April?

I completely agree with your #1 – when I have too much free time I end up wasting all of it! I blame Netflix’s auto-play…
And I can’t wait to hear about your experience learning to use your DSLR! – I’m about to buy one (still debating which exact camera), and I’ll definitely need to take a class to learn how to use it properly!

Ha totally know what you mean with Netflix 🙂 For me it’s also endless house hunting marathons on HGTV.
Will keep you posted about the DSLR course, lots to learn for sure
