Happy Sunday. The sun is (finally) shining in Manhattan and it looks like spring might actually be here to stay. Excuse me while I do a little happy dance.
One of my favorite features from other bloggers are virtual coffee date posts. It’s basically a post of the kinds of thing you would tell your friends if you were catching up over coffee. Grab a cup of coffee (or in my case right now, a chai latte) and let’s catch up!
If we were having coffee today… I’d tell you about how I’m SO excited for Passover next weekend. For those of you not familiar with the holiday, it’s the one with all the matzoh and you perform a seder (a really long retelling of the Passover story) leading up to the dinner. It’s my favorite holiday because it’s full of a lot of fun traditions and rituals plus I get to see my entire extended family on both sides– there will be more than 25 people at each seder. It’s always a very loud but fun experience.
It’s also my favorite holiday because we get to eat matzoh ball soup, which is my all time favorite food.
If we were having coffee today… I’d tell you that next weekend is also Jeremy’s birthday! In the 4+ years we’ve been dating, I haven’t always been able to see him on his birthday because of school or work. He lives in Westchester and I live in Manhattan. I feel bad that we won’t be able to go out to a nice dinner because it’s Passover and I have family obligations, but it still works out because I’ll get to see him on his birthday and spend time with him.
If we were having coffee today… I’d tell you about the whole job situation and how annoying job hunting is. I didn’t realize NYU offers free career coaching to it’s alumni and I just started meeting with a career coach. The truth is I don’t know “what I want to be when I grow up” and hate that I’ve jumped from job to job trying to figure that out. I’m hoping to hone in more on what I love and really enjoy doing now that I’m in a situation where I need to look for a new job.
If we were having coffee today… I’d tell you that I’ve been seriously craving yoga and lower intensity workouts lately. Since coming back from LA I just haven’t felt like going balls to the wall with burpees and insane cardio intervals and have been opting for more yoga type classes as much as possible.
As much as I love working out, even I go through phases when I crave less and need to slow the eff down for a few weeks. I think much of it has to do with the chilly weather lately and how dark it is in the morning when I wake up to work out.
For now I’ve been listening and honoring my body and what it wants. I’m sure I’ll get my workout mojo back soon.
If we were having coffee today… I’d tell you about all the theater I’ve been seeing lately– in the past 3 weeks I’ve seen American Psycho, 1776 (it was a one weekend only special event), Fiddler on the Roof, Disaster and Waitress. A very eclectic bunch to say the least. Even though I’m no longer pursuing acting, nothing makes me happier than sitting in a theater watching a musical.
If we were having coffee today… I’d tell you about how I totally binge watched almost all of Love on Netflix last night. I don’t think I’ve ever binge watched a show before, but I totally got sucked in by auto play.
If we were having coffee today… I’d tell you about how sad I am that tonight is the season finale of Girls. The show has definitely had it’s up’s and down’s through out the years, but this season has been SO consistently good. It’s one of the only TV shows I keep up with, so I’ll be sad to no longer have new episodes to look forward to.
On the bright side, Silicon Valley comes back next week! I got Jeremy totally hooked on this show too, so we’ll have fun watching and discussing the new season.
If we were having coffee today… I’d tell you that I got my second keratin treatment yesterday. It’s seriously been life changing– I love that my hair is now SO easy to manage and style after I workout and shower in the morning.
If we were having coffee today… I’d tell you about how I’ve been on a serious cleaning kick lately. I’ve lived in my apartment for almost 6 years now (crazy!) and have accumulated a lot of crap to say the least. I’m feeling inspired to get rid of things I haven’t used in ages and redecorate a bit. The first thing I did was take down this massive photo collage I had up in my bedroom.
I made this “collage” when I was 20 years old and first moved into my apartment. All these years later it has started to feel childish and made my tiny bedroom feel cluttered. Last weekend I powered through and took down everything, saving the things that really mattered to me in a binder.
The room feels SO different now. It took some getting used to– I literally woke up in the middle of the first night, looked at the wall, and had a double take, but I’m really happy I finally did it.
If we were having coffee today… I’d tell you about how WEIRD it is to have free time now that I’m working less. My schedule is a bit flexible but for the most part I’m working 2 full days and 1 half day. I felt like I was playing hooky when I didn’t go to work last Tuesday. I know this is only temporary so I’m trying to make the most of this extra time by getting shit done that I’ve been putting off all winter.
On my to-do list this week? Get a few dresses tailored that I’ve been meaning to get tailored for over a year now. No time like the present.
If we were having coffee today… I’d tell you that it’s now less than one month until my 26th birthday!!! I feel like I should have a party that weekend… but I’m not really the “party” type. As of right now I think I’m going to go out to dinner with a few people and then invite a ton of others out to a bar that also has games and fun things to do. I could care less about drinking and really just want a reason to gather up all my loved ones in one room.
I did, however, already sign up for an outdoor trapeze class on my birthday. Fingers crossed for nice weather.
Your turn… if we were having coffee today what would you tell me about?
Leah says
Your friend who owes you a coffee date would say a) thanks for filling me in virtually :); b) love love what I do but things are so busy, it’s a funny problem because it’s lucky and exhausting, exhilarating and frustrating all at the same time, but overall all the good emojis; c) want to come clean for me? kidding, sort of; d) this weather, finally! Phone date soon!
Kayla says
🙂 happy to fit you in virtually and busy is certainly a good problem to have. Trust me, I don’t think you want me to do any organization for you, I can barely fold clothes.

I’m going to New York in a few weeks and plan to see as many Broadway shows as I can in four days! I’m going to get tickets in advance for two shows that are on my must-see list: Bright Star (because I live in the lower Midwest, I love bluegrass music, and I am not ashamed) and The Crucible (because a friend is making her Broadway debut in it – so exciting!). I also plan to go to the Hamilton lottery on Wednesday afternoon – I’m trying not to get my hopes up for actually winning, but if nothing else, it’ll be fun to see the Ham4Ham performance. Other than that, any recommendations for shows I should see?!
Kayla says
Ahhh so exciting! Hamilton lottery is insane, but still worth it because you have nothing to lose! IF you haven’t seen the “classics” — Phantom of the Opera, Lion King, Les Miz, Wicked, Chicago, absolutely worth seeing any of them. I highly recommend stopping by the TKTS booth in Time Square the day you want to see a show for discount tickets. A ton of shows now do a digital lottery too which is totally worth it!

Which of those shows was your favorite? Bo and I are seeing King and I in two weeks – can’t wait!
Kayla says
King and I is SO magical, the current production is really amazing.
I really enjoyed all the shows but definitely recommend Waitress. I take my boyfriend to a lot of theater and this was by far one of his favorites. It’s really charming and the cast is crazy talented.
