25, I have a good feeling about you.
This was a phrase I repeated to myself on my 25th birthday a year ago. Sure enough I got the job offer I was hoping for two days after my birthday and felt like I was finally on a good career path. Obviously no year is without issues, stress or drama, but in many ways I was right about 25 and it felt like my year. It was the year I ran a freaking marathon, something I never ever thought I would be able to do.
As I did when I turned 24 and 25, here’s my annual birthday post of life lessons from the previous year. Happy birthday to meeeeeeeeee. Cheers to 26!
1. I can do ANYTHING I put my mind to. Like run a marathon.
2. The only thing constant in life is change.
3. It’s okay to be selfish.
4. Most people don’t actually know how to do their job. We’re all just faking it ’til we make it.
5. You have to look after yourself because no one else will. Except for maybe your mom.
6. Living alone is a skill and an important one at that.
7. I don’t regret majoring in theater, even though I haven’t auditioned once since I graduated college.
8. Taking a two week sort-of vacation is good for the soul.
9. When in doubt, remind yourself you ran a marathon and therefore can do anything.
10. The GMAT sucks.
11. The busier I am, the more productive I tend to be.
12. There is nothing better than crawling into bed after a long day with a good book.
13. I have to leave one weekend night to veg out otherwise I’ll be burnt out before the weekend.
14. It’s okay to ask for help.
15. Our social media channels don’t tell the whole story. Just because someone has a perfect life on instagram doesn’t mean that they are without struggles.
16. Most people my age are just as lost, confused and frustrated as I am.
17. It’s okay to not be in love with Manhattan every minute of every day and that doesn’t mean I should move.
18. A simple “you got this” text from my boyfriend during a grueling long run is sometimes all I need to power through. Okay, and Hamilton.
19. Never stop learning.
20. Adulthood is google searching how to do everything.
21. I am happiest when I’m sitting in a theater, watching a new musical.
22. Women need to uplift each other, not bring other women down.
23. A good relationship is one where you’re your authentic self and can show the good sides and the bad sides.
24. Flying trapeze is a form of therapy.
25. I’d rather be my authentic, awkward, musical theater loving self than a fake version of me.

This was fantastic and so many were true with me! I get texts from Stephen during long runs… I often wear my medals when I’m
Having a I suck moment, I’m still faking it till I make it. 💗

I remind myself on a daily basis “YOU RAN A MARATHON, KAYLA, YOU CAN DO THIS” (and this is usually something stupid like get out of bed when I don’t want to)
