Woah, woah woah, how is it already JUNE!? I guess the real question is how is it no longer my birthday month 🙁
As always, here are my favorite things from the last month. Be sure to let me know what you’re loving too in the comments!
Workouts I’m Loving…
FLYING TRAPEZE!!!!!
Yes, all caps is necessary ‘cuz that’s how excited I am for flying trapeze. As many of you know, flying trapeze is a bizarre hobby of mine and I’ve been a frequent flier for the past few years. I don’t get to fly that much during the winter because the indoor location is a bit inconvenient. I always look forward to warm weather because it means TRAPEZE WEATHER and I get to fly at the outdoor location which isn’t too far away from my apartment.
I’ve already started posting some videos of what I’m working on on instagram. The first few classes back always feel a bit wonky, but I’m excited to build up my trapeze strength again (hello, lat muscles!) and focus on flying all summer long.
Working out with Jillian Michaels
Just looking at this photo makes me freak out like the fangirl that I am.
Earlier this month I was invited to an event with Krave Jerky. Jillian Michaels was an early investor in the company and lead us in a quick 30 minute workout for the event. Having spent many a workout listening to Jillian Michaels podcast and of course I’ve watched her on The Biggest Loser, it was SO surreal to workout with her in real life– and dare I say she’s really nice in person too.
Full disclosure, I don’t eat beef so was unable to taste test the samples they had, but it seemed like everyone at the event loved what they tried. If you do eat meat, I think jerky is a great snack since it’s all protein and satiates unlike a carb-heavy snack.
Fashion I’m Loving
White Converse
You can’t walk a block in Manhattan without seeing some super stylish female wearing white sneakers– either Converse, Supergas or Adidas Stan Smiths. I love that they somehow still look chic with a dress and am obviously a fan of comfortable shoes.
I finally caved and got a pair of white Converse while outlet shopping with my mama. I’ve been a Converse girl since middle school and truly believe that they never go out of style.
No-show socks from Converse
In addition to my new sneaks, I also got a few pairs of no-show socks from Converse. While trying on the shoes my first thought was “How they hell do you wear socks with them?” Duh, Converse made a sock specifically for that.
I’m also a fan of their special socks for hi-tops.
Foods I’m Loving…
Jus Smoothie
Gonna make a bold statement here– smoothies from Jus in Union Square are my favorite smoothies in Manhattan. Seriously. My go-to combo is spinach, pineapple and banana– tastes like vacation and therefore happiness. It’s simple, 3 ingredients and that’s why I love them.
Also, I don’t think they have an instagram account or anything, but it’s that smoothie shop located right next to Coffee Shop.
What I Read…
The Life‑Changing Magic of Tidying Up + Spark Joy by Marie Kondo
As I mentioned in my goals from May post, one of my priorities for this month was organizing my apartment with Marie Kondo’s books + method in mind. I’ll be honest, I was pretty skeptical about the whole method and wasn’t sure how much of it I’d really follow.
I will do a more thorough post about organizing my workout clothes and my own takeaways, but in short my apartment is the most organized it’s ever been. I’m so proud of my drawer + closet organization that I feel the need to show it off to anyone that walks into my apartment. My mom, who is far more anal about cleaning and organization than I, was impressed with the state of my apartment.
It also helps that I got my closet re-done in the middle of tidy-palooza and now have a better layout that works for me and my clothing.
Literally cleaning out my closet. Stay tuned for an after photo 🙂
As far as the books go, I recommend reading them in order (Life-Changing Magic then Spark Joy). I ended up skimming Spark Joy since not all of it was relevant to me (I live alone and luckily don’t have to worry about other people’s organizational habits). I’m happy I read both, though, since Spark Joy has really great visuals and gave me some additional inspiration that I didn’t get from the original book. Even if you’re a bit skeptical about the method I personally recommend the book for anyone that desperately needs to get their home (and maybe life in my case) in order.
Love and Chaos by Gemma Burgess
Last month I sped-read through Brooklyn Girls. Love and Chaos is the second book of this three book series. The books follow 5 recent college graduates who just moved to NYC and their struggles to figure out life post-college. Each book is from the perspective of a different character.
I enjoyed the first book a bit more for some reason, but still liked Love and Chaos as a fun, quick read. It’s a great beach read and reminds me a lot of the Gossip Girls series, just a tad more grown up.
What I Watched…
As far as theater goes, I saw:
- American Psycho. It was my second time seeing the show, it was one of the only shows playing on my birthday and I wanted to see something.
- Dear Evan Hansen which just finished it’s off-broadway run, but will be transferring this winter.
- Fully Committed a hilarious one man show with Jesse Tyler Ferguson. Check out the interview he just did about his healthy routine with Well and Good.
- Hamilton (!!!!) I’ve talked about this show a million and one times so I probably don’t need to say more.
And on the television front
- America’s Next Top Model Marathons. I look forward to Thursday’s and Friday’s because I know there will be an America’s Next Top Model Marathon on Oxygen. I also know I will struggle to be productive for the rest of the day because I just want to watch every episode.
- Quit Your Day Job on Oxygen. It’s like Shark Tank, so entrepreneurs hoping to get investors to invest, but instead of the episode only showing the pitch the entrepreneurs have to prove their product is viable and go through a longer process.
- Silicon Valley on HBO. I’ve been enjoying the new season so far. Jeremy and I recently watched all the episodes (I had already seen almost all of them) so it’s been fun discussing the new episodes every week.
Other Random Things…
Photography class with Art of Intuitive Photography
One of the highlights of this month was FINALLY learning how to use my camera in manual mode. I stumbled upon the Art of Intuitive Photography on CourseHorse and had an amazing experience. While I’m still definitely not a photo-pro by any means, I learned a ton in only 3 hours. If you have a DSLR camera and feel overwhelmed by manual mode I highly recommend this class. Such a great experience.
A new bedspread.
I came to the realization that I hate duvets + duvet covers. It stresses me out and I finally decided to do something about it and buy a new blanket for my bed. It’s a simple and relatively inexpensive change for my bedroom, but it’s AMAZING. I’m so happy to no longer have to awkwardly climb into my duvet cover after every wash.
New comforter is from Urban Outfitters (check it out here). The quilt is a one of the kind college graduation gift from my mom from vintage Abercrombie tee’s of my youth.
