GUYS, it’s been quite the life changing week. I re-launched this here blog, officially decided I’m going to grad school this fall (surprise! More on that next week…) AND launched a business with my friend Leslie. Woah.
Story time. A few months ago I received an email from Leslie asking if I wanted to take a workout class with her. I had posted a photo from my parent’s rooftop and she recognized the location because it’s the building where she grew up. Eventually we met up and took a barre class together, got coffee and chatted for a while.
I always joke that I don’t come off as very friendly to people mainly because I’m super self-conscious of my inherent awkwardness, but Leslie and I instantly connected. I guess she didn’t think I was a bitch because we kept in touch and went to a few more workouts together. She was just starting her journey to become a healthy coach with IIN and I was super excited for her.
I then had this great idea let’s throw a wellness event. I’ll teach a yoga class and Leslie will cook a healthy dinner of sort. I’m not a particularly ballsy person so telling Leslie my idea was pretty terrifying and I gave her the out to say “Thanks, but no thanks.” Instead she texted me from work later that morning about how she couldn’t stop thinking about ideas for events we could throw.
It was the perfect partnership. For starters, I can’t cook to save my life and she can’t teach fitness. Even more importantly, we kept each other accountable. SO many times I’ve had an idea and totally chickened out because I was scared of the vulnerability that comes with putting yourself out there and even more afraid of failing.
Last night that crazy idea of mine came to fruition and we hosted our first Holistic Happening event, Downward Dog & Dine.
As scary as it was to put ourselves out there, it was SO worth it and the feedback we have already received has been very positive. I taught a relaxing 45-minute yoga class which was followed by a seasonal BBQ inspired dinner.
Leslie and I will soon be releasing an e-book of all the recipes and while they were all DELICIOUS (and dairy-free, gluten-free, paleo-friendly, etc.) the star of the show in my opinion was the raw vegan cheesecake. But then again, I always love cheesecake. The chicken was also a fan favorite and was made with cinnamon, which sounds weird but is totally tasty.
I’m so excited that this is only the beginning of Holistic Happening and we’re already planning our August event. We’ll release all information on our instagram account so stay tuned!
Huge thank you to friends, family and followers for your love and support leading up to this event.
And most importantly… Let this be a lesson to reach out to those that inspire you on instagram and be vocal about your crazy, big ass ideas. They might just become a reality 🙂
