Just as I suspected, I went from feeling oh so calm to feeling like I’ve been shot out of a cannon now that school started. Like, holy moly, I can feel the stress pimples already forming and want to break out in hives looking at my jam packed calendar this month.
Since the semester started on a Wednesday, I’ve only had one class so far– Data Analysis. It’s basically a statistics class that uses Excel. I haven’t taken a math class since I took Calculus as a senior in high school 8+ years ago and never use Excel so this should be hilarious.
As things start to pick up, it can be easy to push wellness to the side. What I’ve learned in the past, though, is that wellness is not an option. It’s a must. Even when I feel like I’m running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off, I know setting aside that hour to workout is always worth it.
I sometimes drink a lot of coffee to make up for the sleep I’m not getting. I’m not great about meal planning… and actually didn’t go food shopping this week until today. I order takeout more often than I care to admit and the nearby sushi restaurants knows me way too well. One thing I never let slide? Carving out that hour of the day that’s just for me.
During these crazy, crazy, times I’m reminded of when I first started getting really into fitness as a sophomore in college. I was barely sleeping 4 hours a night, in class from 8AM to 6PM most days, working on 4 shows outside of class, and had to rehearse for most classes I was taking. My favorite part of the day was when I put on my ratty work out clothes and headed to the campus gym. For that hour I could tune out all the outside noise. And the best part? My cellphone didn’t get reception in the campus gym so NO ONE could reach me. It was glorious.
You might’ve seen these leggings quite a bit on instagram today. Sweaty Betty launched their new Power legging with the campaign hashtag #PowerHour and enlisted an army of inspirational ladies to celebrate. 1. What a brilliant marketing campaign, if I do say so myself. 2. I seriously loved scrolling through the hashtag today. So much girl power and so much positivity.
All these years later, I still look forward to that hour every day when I get all gross and sweaty and lock my phone away in some fancy locker room so no one can reach me.

Note: While I did receive the leggings for free as part of the campaign, this post isn’t sponsored nor was I asked to write a blog post about the leggings. Just felt inspired to share!
