Hi guys! Apologies for the radio silence this past week. First there were midterms and then there was the election…
As I’m sure many of you can relate to, I was hit with a bizarre sense of sadness after the election. I don’t usually talk about politics here, but it feels weird to not mention it. I feel paralyzed because there is not much I can personally do about this country and all the hate. What I can do is continue to put positive vibes out there in the world.
I won’t pretend that teaching yoga and preaching about the benefits of exercise will change this situation, but it certainly doesn’t hurt. If any of you need someone to talk to or feel scared please do not hesitate to reach out.
And now, onto the favorites
Favorite Things From October
Workouts I’m Loving…
Exceed Physical Culture
I’m no stranger to Exceed, I took my first class there back in 2013! Exceed has always been one of my favorite studios and Marianna is hands down one of my favorite instructors, but I had stop going there until recently.
While the Tribeca location isn’t exactly far away from me, it does require some travel and lately I’ve been gravitating towards studios that are within walking distance to my apartment.
Marianna’s Saturday class has been a favorite this past month. Her ability to kick my ass while also motivating me to try harder is really quite the skill. If you haven’t taken a class with her yet, you really really should.
Foods I’m Loving…
Cava Grill
I had an excellent dinner date with fellow blogger Elana (<— Psssst be sure to check out her blog! I’m obsessed with her career content!) at Cava Grill in Union Square. I’d describe it as a healthy, Mediterranean inspired, Chipotle where you create your own bowls. Lots of choices for those who are gluten-free, vegetarian or vegan.
Fashion I’m Loving
Alexis Mera – Joggers
You might’ve seen these joggers featured in other blog posts around here. They are SO freaking comfy and perfect for running errands on a lazy Sunday while still looking somewhat polished.
Be sure to use my code KAYLA10 for 10% off any purchase from Alexis Mera and check out this interview I did on their blog about my life!
Beauty Products I’m Loving…
Oi All-in-One Milk from Davines
I was introduced to this glorious stuff while getting my haircut. Contrary to popular belief, I’m pretty low maintenance and lazy when it comes to dealing with my hair. I just wanna wash it, blow dry it and go.
I like that this hair milk is a one stop shop for de-frizzing, de-tangling and leaves me with shiny, healthy looking hair. No need to use a bunch of products before I blow dry my hair.
The Edgiest Mascara from The Estee Lauder Edit
I don’t wear a ton of make-up these days, usually just foundation, powder and mascara unless I feel like I need to look a bit more put together and then I do eyeliner + shadow.
In the last year I’ve had a lot of eye issues and was frequently getting these nasty stye-like lumps around my lower lid. They only went away with steroid injections, lucky me!
After talking to my doctor, she recommended I switch up my mascara and that Estee Lauder is her favorite because it’s gentle. I love this mascara from their “Edit” line, it gives my lashes some drama and volume without being over the top.
What I Read…
The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving A F*ck by Sarah Knight
OMG I am legit obsessed with this book. If you’re a people pleaser (so guilty!) this book is for you. I also now want to be BFF’s with Sarah Knight, but that’s another story…
I had already sort of adopted this philosophy in recent months. I don’t say yes to as many events and celebrations as I used to because I realized doing too many things was stressing me out and not worth it. I no longer feel so guilty about saying no thanks to this book.
What I’m Listening To…
Green Day’s new album: Revolution Radio
You might not know this about me but I’m a HUGE Green Day fan. Like, embarrassingly so.
I didn’t have high expectations for their new album, to be honest, but I’m pleasantly surprised and genuinely love a few songs off of it. My current faves are Ordinary World, Still Breathing, Young Blood.
I also got to see Green Day perform at Webster Hall last month. My god they put on SUCH a good live show, it’s insane. Seeing them at such a small venue was amazing and got my pretty hyped up to see them again in March 🙂
Highlights From The Month
Dressing up with Jeremy for Halloween.
Not gonna lie, I’ve always secretly wanted to do a couples costume with Jeremy. But alas we’re usually lame for Halloween. This year, though, we had 2 parties to attend Halloween weekend and plans for Halloween night so we agreed to go as Meeseeks. If you get the joke, you’ll certainly appreciate this choice. Bonus: the costume doubles as pajamas.
Holistic Happening: October Downward Dog & Dine
Without fail, one of the highlights of every month for me is Holistic Happening, the wellness events I throw with my business partner Leslie.
Downward Dog + Dine has become our signature event. I teach a 45 minute vinyasa yoga class and then we eat a delicious and healthy meal prepared by Leslie.
Our October event was our biggest one yet and sold out in record time. I can’t even describe how happy I get looking around the table seeing a group of strangers connecting and chatting. I’ve also loved teaching these monthly yoga classes, it’s such a treat for me.
We have two events in December — another Downward Dog + Dine on 12/14 and then a Vision Board Party which I’m SUPER pumped for!
As heads up, I added an Upcoming Events page to my menu which is where you can find all our future happenings + events!
