It’s time to hop back on the plane at LAX… and y’know go home to New York.
I had a seriously awesome vacation celebrating my best friend’s birthday, going to Disneyland and a little bit of activism at the Women’s March.
Of course no trip to LA is complete with visiting some fitness studios. I promise I still kept my vacation vows in the process. This time around I used the new Base Membership from ClassPass to visit a few studios.
Full disclosure: I worked at ClassPass for a year. It was probably before you even knew what ClassPass was. I haven’t been a member in NYC since I stopped working there but did use ClassPass briefly while I was in LA for two weeks last March. The experience was okay, not great (<— read more about it there).
I knew this time around I would only be in LA a week, so ClassPass’ new 5-class Base Membership option seemed like a good fit for the occasion. The hope was to save some money and quickly be able to find classes close to where I was staying.
So, was it worth it?

ClassPass LA: Was It Worth It?
It depends on how you look at it.
Pros: As far as literally saving money, yes it was totally worth it and I clearly saved money. Saving money doesn’t suck.
It was also nice to be able to quickly look at the schedules of a ton of studios instead of spending a butt ton of time researching my options. I was able to quickly see a bunch of options for 10:30AM classes in West Hollywood. From there I could even filter down based on what I was looking for such as yoga or barre.
Cons: There’s always a catch and the discounted cost of class comes at a price. Not all studios in LA are on ClassPass, which I knew ahead of time. Some studios also don’t offer all time slots on ClassPass or offer super limited spots in a class.
For example, there were no ClassPass spots available at one of my favorite LA studios, Prevail. I’ll admit I also wasn’t on top of my shit signing up for classes right when they became available. Because, vacation.
I feel lucky that I have a general idea of the studios out here thanks to both working at ClassPass, being obsessed with the fitness industry and traveling to LA a fair amount. If I didn’t know any of the studios, it would’ve been SUPER overwhelming to pick which studios to visit.
All in all, it was the perfect option for me during this trip to LA. Going forward I would maybe consider doing one of the lower class options in NYC, depending on availability of popular studios.
