If you know me, you know that I’m an early person. Being late makes me REAL anxious. So when I went to LIT Method last March and arrived 5 minutes late I was flustered AF. I think it was the first time I’ve ever arrived late to a fitness class.
I didn’t remember a ton about the class except that I was late but I enjoyed it.
While looking for a class to hit-up on ClassPass, I was excited to see a familiar name on the schedule at LIT Method. I knew Brandon Goodman from back-in-the-day when I worked front desk at Flywheel in NYC and he taught barre there. Now he’s taking both LA and the fitness scene out here by storm.
So, I decided to hit up LIT Method again, and leave a ton of extra time for any Uber snafus along the way.
Good thing I did, I forgot what a sweaty, whirlwind of a workout LIT is.

$28 per class. Class Packages available too.
The Studio:
As is pretty typical in LA, the studio boasts minimal amenities, no locker room and no showers. The space is super clean, though, and towels are free.
When I arrived at the studio I got to pick my own spot in the room on a white board, kind of like when you get to pre-reserve your bike in a spin class. Each station has a water rower, suspension trainer, bungee cords, booty-band and foam roller. So. Many. Toys.
The lights are kept low during the whole class which kept me from awkwardly staring at myself in the mirror the whole time. You know you’re guilty of doing this too. With the lack of lights I totally kept in the zone and was oblivious to what others were doing around me.
And lastly, I’ll warn ya, the room gets pretty toasty so plan accordingly.
The Class [Signature LIT]:
First things first, LIT stands for Low-Impact-Training. Don’t let that trick you into thinking it’s an easy workout. It’s not.
The format of the class is SUPER fast paced, great for distracting you from how much you’re sweating 🙂 You never do anything for more than 30 seconds.
Breaking It Down:
We started off with a brief warm-up on the rowing machine (is it a super LA thing to not have a proper warm-up? I’ve seen this at a few studios) and then it was time to go to werk. The class is a mixture of cardio intervals on the rowing machine (think tabata and lots of sprints) and strength training moves off the rower using bungee cords, suspension trainers and body weight moves.
One of my favorite aspects of the class is that everything is ready for you at your little “station” and you don’t have to worry about whacking someone in the face mid-workout. If you can’t tell, I’m a fan of personal space.
What I’m not a huge fan of rowing, it gets boring real fast for me, but I didn’t mind it at LIT Method since we were never on the rowing machine for a long period of time. Also, if I’m going to have to row, the water rowing machines are the way to go.
In addition to having Brandon, there was also a second instructor helping out keeping everyone motivated and moving during class.
For a 50 minute class, 45 of which was the meat of the workout, we did a ton of different things. I do wish we stuck with a few of the movements for a bit longer — 30 seconds of bicep curls with the suspension trainers isn’t that much. The class is definitely more metabolic than strength focused.
We finished class with a nice, long, cool down using the foam rollers. This personal trainer is IMPRESSED that they used foam rollers. Kayla approves.

Bottom Line:
Overall, I’m a fan. The 50 minutes went by fast and I felt like I got a pretty good sweat on. Added bonus that it’s a great low-impact alternative.
