I love Day-In-The-Life blog posts from other bloggers. There’s something fascinating to me about the minute details of someone else’s day. Like, what do full-time bloggers do all day? And how do people juggle MULTIPLE side hustles.
I’ve been wanting to do another day-in-the-life post. My post from last year looks nothing like my life now. Because of the nature of my schedule these days, my days don’t look all that similar. So, instead I’ll show ya what a typical Kayla week looks like in winter of 2017.
a week in the life of a crazed grad school student
► internship // monday, tuesday, thursday
- Monday + Thursday 9AM-5PM
- Tuesday = half day.
I cannot for the life of me workout at night. I’ve tried and it ain’t happening. So, on internship days I wake up around 5:30AM to workout at 6:15AM/6:30AM.
I’m not a morning person. Every. Single. Morning. I toy with the idea of going back to bed and skipping my workout. Okay, and sometimes this actually happens — but it’s pretty rare.
My go-to’s for these early ass morning classes have been:
● Bar Method (AND I don’t need to shower afterwards, WIN 👍🏻)
● Body Space Fitness (super close to my apartment = I can sleep a bit later)
● Yoga Vida (another shower-free option).
Early morning shenanigans at Body Space Fitness.
After working out I go home, (sometimes) shower and get ready before heading to internship.
I love that I can walk or take the subway to internship, depending on the weather and if I’m running late. If I’m running late it’s because I was trying to post something to instagram. I wish I was kidding.
I’m interning at Daily Burn. They produce topnotch, live streaming workout videos. I do all kinds of things related to social media, including but not limited to:
- composing vaguely witty tweets,
- editing videos for youtube
- pinning ALL the things to pinterest
- researching competitors
- PR outreach
- looking at social media trends.
- posting ridiculous instagram stories.
Def not the worst internship 🙂
I make an effort to go outside at least once during the day for some fresh air, usually for a Starbucks run.. Yes, I consume a lot of caffeine.
After internship I’ll either:
● get dinner with friends
● have a Holistic Happening event
● cook dinner at home and get some work done (homework + blogging)
On half days I make the most of that extra time and schedule meetings and phone calls or y’know do homework and blog writing.
I aim for 7 hours of sleep a night. It truthfully almost never happens these days. Instead I’ll work until about 10:30PM on nights I’m home, and then get ready for bed and read until around 11:30PM.
► grad school // Wednesday
As always, I start off the day with a workout. When I can help it, I try to sleep in on Wednesdays. But sometimes I’ll still go to a 7AM yoga class because it works better with timing.
On Wednesdays I have the whole day off leading up to my 5:30PM grad school class. I’m only taking one class this semester because of internship. Night classes suck but unfortunately it’s the only time the class is offered.
I push all my meetings and exciting things to Wednesday since I have the whole day to get shit done. I’ll book a Breather and do whatever photoshoot I need for an upcoming blog post. Take some photos in my apartment. Catch up on emails. Write blog posts for the following week. Catch up on any lingering Holistic Happening things I need to do such as designing newsletters. Work on my playlist and sequence for yoga classes I’m teaching. And yes, get some homework done too.
After school on Wednesdays I’m pretty wiped out from the day and like to watch the new Top Model episode. Love me some mindless, guilty pleasure, reality TV 🙂
► Friday = fun day
Oh Friday, I LOVE you so! On Friday’s I teach yoga first thing in the morning at Shaktibarre. I’ve only taught a few of these 7AM classes but they’re already my favorite.
Afterwards, I get a chai latte 🙂 and walk to flying trapeze. Yes, I take weekly flying trapeze classes. It’s been an important part of my life since college and I swear it’s better than therapy.
After trapeze I head on home and make lunch before focusing on clearing out my inbox before the weekend. I suck at staying on top of my inbox. Sorry if you’ve ever emailed me and it took like a month for me to get back.
I’ll power through as much work as possible on Friday until 6PM. At that point Jeremy usually comes into the city from Westchester to spend the weekend.
Aaaaand those are my week days in a nutshell.
Your turn: What’s your week like? Are all your days a little bit different?

That internship sounds AMAZING. Fun jobs make all the difference in getting out of bed for pre-work workouts too. My weeks are pretty consistent since my job has me in the office Mon – Fri, 8am – 5pm. Frequently we have events that take me out of the office and working later into the night, but I would love a job that gave me the opportunity to work from home or flex hours so I could try workout classes that don’t fall outside of working hours.

It’s weird being back in an office after being on my own for a few months — I’m definitely still adjusting.
I feel like more companies will move towards flexible hours and working from home in the future. Fingers crossed for ya!

I took a flying trapeze class in Minneapolis. I am scared of heights so it was terrifying but exhilarating! I would have to get over the fear though if I were to do it regularly. Also your internship sounds awesome!

I still get an adrenaline rush from flying, but it definitely gets less scary over time 🙂
