Uh, when did it become the end of March!?
Pro: We’re SO close to summer (or at the very least consistently warm weather!)
Con: Time is flying way too fast and I don’t have time to get my shit done.
Hence the silence for most of last week — apologies about that!
My brain is in a constant state of overdrive these days. I apologize for the lighter posting schedule in the upcoming weeks as I finish out this semester.
I keep reminding myself that the insanity is only temporary. And I’m more than halfway through this semester.
ANYWAYS. I gots lots to talk about, but my brain is also all over the place. No better time than now to do a virtual coffee date.
Let’s catch up on everything going down since our last date.
If we were having coffee today… I’d talk about being busy.
I hate that word. Busy. And there’s been countless articles on the glorification of busy. I don’t know another word to describe my current state of frenzied being, so I’m sticking with busy.
These past few weeks have been challenging for me. I’m writing this post during the one stretch of downtime I had this weekend. I woke up Sunday morning thinking it was Saturday. And then promptly thought CRAP! This weekend needs to slow down!
I love the bulk of what I do these days. And the things I don’t love are non-negotiable at the moment. It is what it is.
I keep reminding myself it’s all only temporary. Come this summer, my schedule will drastically shift. And I’m sure things will be busy in a different way but I’ll be more in control of my schedule.

If we were having coffee today… we’d talk about apartment hunting.
Yes, I’m currently apartment hunting. And lemme tell you, I feel like I’m on a quest for a freaking unicorn.
I’ve watched enough House Hunters to know that you’re never going to get everything you want. But I do have a few non-neogotiables:
- it must be in my current neighborhood
- have a washer dryer in unit
- bigger than my current apartment.
I’m in a unique situation and have flexibility. I don’t have a firm date that I need to leave my current apartment.
Maybe it’s a good thing I haven’t yet found my unicorn. I ain’t got time to pack these days!

If we were having coffee today… We’d talk about my blog post from last week on grad school.
A few people have asked me if in writing that post I’ve come closer to a conclusion of what I should do. I wish I could say I have, but alas I have come to no further conclusion. I still don’t know whether or not I’m going to finish this program.
What has been helpful, though, is hearing all your stories. So many of you came forward and told me about your grad school experiences. The good, bad and plain frustrating. I so appreciate your honesty in sharing your stories.
One thing I am sure of is that I’m going to take the summer off of grad school. I’m still hammering out the details, but I’m looking into NYU’s diploma in Social Media Marketing. We shall see.

If we were having coffee today… I’d tell you about the upcoming trips I’m super excited about!
In May I’m going to Chicago with my brother, his girlfriend and my boyfriend. I’ve never been to Chicago and could not be more excited. The sole inspiration for this trip is to see the Chicago cast of the musical Hamilton. Not the craziest thing I’ve ever done for a musical I love 🙂
Also on on Chicago agenda thus far is a Cubs game and of course I have to try deep dish pizza. Lactose intolerance be damned.
Any and all Chicago recommendations greatly appreciated — what fitness studios should I check out? What do I absolutely need to do? And most important: is it possible to find really good dairy-free deep dish pizza?

Jeremy and I will also be heading to Boston in June to see the touring cast of the musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch. We’re not sure yet how much time we’re going to spend in Boston and if we’re even going to stay in Boston “proper” or the outskirts. We both love Boston so are looking forward to spending some time there.
Conclusion: Will travel for musical theater 🙂

Your turn: If we were having coffee today what would you tell me about?
Amanda Shapin says
Good luck in your apartment search! I know how stressful that is (in 9 years I lived in 5 different NYC apartments). What I can tell you is–don’t give up on finding a washer and dryer in unit! I didn’t get that until this apartment in SF and omg my life has changed drastically.
