I’m sure you’ve all heard by now that sitting is the new smoking. Excellent news for anyone with a desk job which is… uh most of us.
We don’t all have the benefit of a standing desk. Sometimes sitting [almost] all day is unavoidable. I totes get it.
I feel fortunate that all my jobs since college have been yoga pant friendly… but that doesn’t mean I’m comfortable busting out some sun salutations mid work day. I’m weird but not that weird.
Whether you can wear yoga pants to work or not, I got a round-up of simple yoga poses you can do at your desk. These poses will help reverse some of the negative effects of sitting all damn day.
I decided to focus on poses that are relatively discreet and won’t cause too much commotion in the office. Although I will say, midday headstands are a great energy boost 😜
5 Yoga Poses To Do At Your Desk
â–º Seated Spinal Twist
Not only do seated spinal twists feel great, they’re also super beneficial if you suffer from lower back pain, a common ailment for those with desk jobs.
In yoga, twists are also believed to be good for your organs, and can help aid digestion while also stimulating the liver and kidneys. I make a point to do a few spinal twists throughout the day, especially if I’ve been sitting at my desk for a while!
â–º Modified Pigeon pose
Sitting all day can wreak havoc on your hip flexors. This modified pigeon / figure four stretch will release hip tension caused from sitting. Option to also grab underneath your thigh for a deeper stretch. If your real flexible (and comfortable with your c0-workers) you can also prop your leg up on to a desk.
