As sad as I am to say goodbye to my birthday month, June = summer, and summer = a very happy Kayla. Cute dress and Birkenstock season is my faaaavorite season.
It’s been a long, crazy month [I can’t believe school ended less than a month ago! It feels like FOREVER] so without further ado, here are the faves from the month.
Also be sure to check out my Chicago post for my favorite things from my trip!
Favorite Things From May
Fashion I’m Loving
All the mesh workout clothes.
I’m totes late to the mesh fashion craze, but at last I have arrived!
The above leggings are from Zella, Nordstrom’s activewear line. Full disclosure: I’m an ambassador for Zella and did receive a gift card to buy the leggings. Ambassador or not, I LOVE the leggings, and got a ton of compliments when I wore them to teach last night. They are a bit long if you’re a shorty, like me, but rolling up the cuff didn’t ruin the look!
THIS ONESIE FROM SWEATY BETTY IS EVERYTHING. When I tried this on at the store I legit asked everyone if I was cool enough to pull it off. The jury is still out on that one. Dork or not, I freaking love this onesie. Oh and it’s REVERSIBLE.
Shout out to photographer, Alexis Damen, for the fabulous shot.
Pastel Jean Jackets from Forever21
So one night I walked into Forever21 — my sushi take-out was going to be ready in 5 minutes. And of course I walked out with two adorable jean jackets in light pink and light blue. I have a feeling they’re going to be a summer favorite.
Food I’m Loving
Kite Hill Yogurt + Granola.
I’ve talked about Kite Hill before, but my god I’ve been a yogurt fiend this month.
I love having yogurt for breakfast — it’s fast and refreshing in the morning. Buuuuut dairy also hurts my belly. Kite Hill is the best vegan yogurt I’ve been able to find (although I’m open to any suggestions!) I like that it has a fair amount of protein, although I wish it didn’t have added sugar.
Primal Kitchen Chipotle Mayo + Simple Mills crackers
My go-to lazy lunch is tuna on crackers. Even if it makes me the smelly gal at work #sorrynotsorry.
The chipotle lime mayo is slightly spicy and adds a delicious kick to my usual tuna salad. I’m usually a saltine kind of gal but loved these more nutritious crackers from Simple Mills. I have a feeling this is going to be my go-to summer lunch — with some baby carrots on the side.
Grilled Salmon.
I got a stovetop grill for Chanukah… and didn’t use it until this month. My first cooking experiment with the grill was salmon and it was SO good.
I ended up buying pre-marinated salmon from Whole Foods. The actual cooking process was simple and easy. Trust me, if I can handle it ANYONE can.
I’m looking forward to testing out other recipes on the grill — please send any recommendations my way.
Workouts I’m Loving
CorePower Yoga
GUYS! CorePower Yoga is finally in NYC! I went to their C2 yoga class on opening day and it was good. I’m not usually one for heated classes but I like that the heat isn’t too oppressive and the attitude at the studio is light and fun. I will definitely be back.
I’m pretty sure the first week is free for all newbies, even if you’ve been to a studio in a different city. Check it out and let me know what you think!
CYC Fitness
It’s been ages since I took a spin class. CYC invited me to become an ambassador and I couldn’t say yes fast enough. For starters two of my absolute favorite instructors are now teaching there — Ryan Makely and Holly Rilinger.
They’ve changed the format a bit and I need to write an updated review. The arm section is still a killer but now it’s towards the end. I find that the workout feels like more of a workout now because of this.
I cannot even convey to you how happy riding with Ryan made me. For me, he is the ultimate example of someone that brings joy to group fitness. There’s no fat shaming. No countdown ’til bikini season. Just pure happiness and fun.
What I Read
My Not-So Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella
Anyone else read the Shoppaholic series? I was excited to read Kinella’s latest book, My Not-So Perfect Life. The description talked about social media and how it’s only a highlight reel — sounds right up my alley.
The book was not actually about about social media (not that that’s a bad thing) and more so about the main character’s struggle to break into the world of branding.
The book is a bit long winded. The middle bits were okay, but dragged on too long. But by the end I was attached to these characters and wanted more.
All-in-all a fun beach read.
After I Do by Taylor Reid Jenkins
I’m slowly working my way through all of Taylor Reid Jenkins’ books. This one follows a young, married couple who have decided to take a “break” as a way to mend their marriage. The book is all about what happens during this year and different views on love and marriage. Like the rest of her books, it’s not meaty, but super enjoyable to read.
I especially loved the main character’s sister and would like to request a spin off book about her, k thanks.
What I Watched
I’m totally addicted to this season of Rupaul’s Drag Race, but that’s nothing new 🙂 It is a HOT MESS, but also fantastic all at once. Anyone else watching? Who are you rooting for?
In other news, EVERYONE texted me about the Roseanne revival. Roseanne is my all time favorite TV show (I’m not kidding!) and I’m SO curious how they are going to pull off the revival. I’m hoping for the best.
On the theater front… I did a lot of traveling to see theater! First up I went to New Jersey to see Rent, which was one of my favorite shows growing up. The production was almost identical to the broadway show which was SURREAL.
As you know I went to Chicago to see Hamilton which was of course fantastic as always.
Jeremy and I also saw Amelie for my birthday which sadly closed last week.

✨ The Skinny on NYC’s Spin Scene
Leah says
Oh will definitely be checking out the Sophie Kinsella book! I did a major B&N haul on Saturday but when I finish with those will move on to this… or maybe make a detour. I’m a sucker for classics so it might be nice to break from the 19th and early 20th centuries in a few weeks.

Aw thank you! And YES I’m loving Zella, can’t believe I hadn’t tried any stuff from that line before.
