As Aaron Burr says in the musical Hamilton: Nothing like summer in the city.
Sure, NYC can become hella steamy come summer. Even so, I not-so-secretly love summer in the city. There’s a certain energy here once the weather gets warmer. The streets are quieter. And there are SO many fun [and often times FREE] things to do.
This list is only a small fraction of all the incredible healthy thangs happening in NYC this summer. Let me know in the comments what you’re excited about:
11 Healthy Things To Do in NYC This Summer
1. Namaste in Time Square.
Every year thousands of yogis come together in Time Square to celebrate the summer solstice. I’ve never been, but I’ve heard it’s always an incredible experience. Check out here for information about the June 21st event.
2. Cool off with some Freeze from Pressed Juicery.

Guys, I’ve been seeing Freeze ALL over my damn instagram feed and I need to get some in my belly ASAP. Pressed Juicery currently has a matcha flavor of this dairy-free goodness. WHAT!?
3. Get zen on a rooftop with Holistic Happening.
I’m SO excited to be teaching at two rooftop events in July in partnership with my company Holistic Happening and Wellness Official. The classes take place on the rooftop of the dreamy James Hotel.
Health coach Leslie McDonald will lead a guided meditation and reiki session. After meditation, I’m teaching an athletic yoga class. We’ll be leading this morning class on July 6th and July 13th.
Get your tickets here.
4. Stroll, walk or bike down Park Avenue.
On three Saturdays in August, seven miles of NYC streets are shut down as a part of Summer Streets. It’s hands down one of my favorite parts of summer. There are always a ton of fun activities including HUGE blow-up slides and free bike rentals. And there’s something bizarre about NO cars on Park Avenue.
It’s also great if you’re logging 10+ miles and training for the NYC Marathon! I would know 🙂
5. Take a spin around Governor’s Island.
Every year Jeremy and I take the ferry to Governor’s Island and it’s without fail a highlight of summer.
My advice is to go early and make a day of it. Read in the hammocks, enjoy lunch from one of the trucks, explore the art shows and finish the day with a bike ride around the island.
6. Fly through the air with the greatest of ease.
I’m a bit of a flying trapeze addict, so I’m a bit biased 🙂
Even if I wasn’t addicted to trapeze, I’d recommend checking out Trapeze School New York’s outdoor summer rig. For starters the view of lower Manhattan is unreal. And the adrenaline rush is pretty great too.
And yes it’s a good workout! After class I swear muscles will be sore that you didn’t know you had.
7. Sweat for a good cause.
Lauren Chiarello of Chi Chi Life hosts weekly sweat sessions in Central Park. Each class is led by a different popular instructor in NYC and proceeds from each event support a charity of the instructor’s choosing.
I went to one of the classes last year and had a blast. On a lovely night in Central Park, it’s the best.
8. Flow for free in Washington Square Park with Yoga Vida.
Nothing beats yoga outside. Every Thursday morning Yoga Vida (where I did my yoga teacher training!) hosts a free yoga class in Washington Square Park. I’m hoping to make it to a class soon!
9. Stand Up Paddle Board.
I’m DYING to go stand-up paddle boarding in the Hudson (anyone wanna come with?!) Check out all the cool classes Manhattan Kayak has to offer.
10. Close your eyes and pretend you’re at the beach with SALTY YOGA.
Salty Yoga is back!
What is Salty Yoga? It’s a 45 minute yoga class taught at BREATHE Salt Room by me! What the heck should you sit in a salt room? Because it’s fabulous for your lungs and leaves your skin SUPER soft. Also it kind of smells like the beach.
Our next Salty Yoga class is July 24. Sign up for class here.
11. Or just go to the actual beach.
And yes, I think going to the beach is VERY healthy. What’s good for your soul is good for you, right?
I haven’t been to the Rockaways yet but I hear they’re the best beach in town. If you’re looking for an easy trip to the beach, I had fun at Coney Island last year.
Tell me: What healthy things in NYC are you excited about this summer?
