Hi guys! Happy Thursday. Anyone have fun plans for the long weekend? Anyone confused about whether or not they have a long weekend because the holiday is Tuesday?
My plan is to stay here in the city. I’ve been a bit all over the place this week, going to Long Island to be with family and tonight I’m going to Westchester for a few hours to be with my parents.
I’m looking forward to a low-key long weekend. On my to-do list is lots of reading, some swimming, and getting my tan on.
When I started blogging I did weekly workout recaps. My workouts have gotten more routine over the years. I used to hop around from studio to studio, trying every new crazy class in this city. At this point, I’ve found what works for me and stick to it. I do go through phases, though, where I crave certain workouts more than others.
I haven’t done a recap in a while, so though I’d kick it old school and tell ya guys what I’ve been up to on the workout front. Here’s a look at last week’s workouts.
A Week of Workouts
I’m still a big fan of Fitreserve. These days I’m doing all group fitness, all the time. Even though I’m a personal trainer and can do my own thing, I prefer the group atmosphere. I live alone and joke that it’s a good opportunity for me to be around people. There’s also something nice about the mindlessness of following another person’s lead. It works for me so I’m sticking to it!
▶︎ Monday: Trapeze + Yoga
My first trapeze class in over a month! Coming back after some time off is always a struggle — trapeze isn’t exactly something you can practice on the ground. It still felt good to be back up in the sky… and my lats were SO sore the next day.
At night I met up with a friend from high school for what was supposed to be a rooftop yoga class at the JCC. But thanks to some rain it ended up being an indoor class.
The class was a slower flow than what I’m used to and what I teach. But after trapeze I was grateful for less chaturangas and more stretching.
▶︎ Tuesday: Barry’s Bootcamp – Butt + Legs day
I’ve been going to Barry’s Bootcamp on a weekly basis lately. For those of you not familiar, Barry’s Bootcamp is a combination of interval running on a treadmill with strength training. Each day has it’s own muscle focus. And it’s really freaking hard.
Truthfully I have a love/ hate relationship with the class. Sometimes I feel like a rockstar. Other days I feel out of shape and defeated. I’ve been going, though, because the Noho location is close to home and has classes every hour.
Butt and Leg day is my favorite… and rumor has it it’s the hardest day.
▶︎ Wednesday: Yoga at Yoga Vida.
On Wednesday’s we flow. I try to hit up at least one yoga class every week. For starters, it keeps me sane and feeling balanced. I also find it helpful as a new(ish) yoga teacher to always be picking up on new cues and sequences for my own classes.
Classes at Yoga Vida tend to be straight-up vinyasa and on the more athletic side. I was still sore from trapeze and needed the deep flow!
▶︎ Thursday: Body Space Fitness – Cardio Strength
Without fail I always make it to Body Space Fitness every week. The Cardio Strength class has grown on me as a format. It’s only 45 minutes long and you do 3 circuits during the class. Each circuit is comprised of four movements that you do for a certain number of reps. I’m terrible at counting while I workout (guys, it was a PROBLEM when I would train people!) so the format was rough for me at first.
Don’t worry, I’ve learned how to count 😜 and have learned to love the fast paced class.
▶︎ Friday: spin class with CYC
Full disclosure, I’m getting free classes at CYC thanks to a partnership I have with them (sadly they are not on Fitreserve). The timing couldn’t have been better because my favorite instructor from when I worked at Flywheel, Ryan is now teaching at CYC. Kicking off the weekend with him is the best
If you’ve never been to CYC before, use code KAYLAINTHECITY for your first class free!
▶︎ Saturday: Uplift – Strength
The Saturday strength class at Uplift with Alyssa is my JAM. I legit look forward to it every week. Strength at Uplift will ALWAYS be my favorite. I love the format of hitting every major muscle group — but then you’re done with it. And there’s only 8 minutes of cardio total during class. I loathe cardio so this is ideal.
▶︎ Sunday: Rest
Most of the time Sunday = rest day. I always schedule one rest day and sometimes a second ends up happening depending on how the week goes.
Tell me: What workouts are you loving lately? What’s your week in workouts look like?
