Hi guys! Oh boy, it’s been quite the week. I was in Las Vegas for roughly 24-hours last week for a trip with Barilla pasta. More on that later this week (and all about my Vegas adventures!)
I’ve talked about this before but I don’t drive myself crazy trying to “stay healthy” on vacation. If I’m going to Chicago, you bet I’m gonna eat deep dish pizza. And if I’m going to Las Vegas with a pasta company, I will spare no carb.
I do make it a point, though, to not stress about what I’m eating and the workouts I’m not necessarily doing. Instead I focus on the little things I can do to still feel like my wellness loving self while traveling. Uh, without driving myself crazy.
5 Essentials for Wellness On the Go
▶︎ Forgot the little black dress.
I’m all about the black yoga pants. Even though I was flying from humid NYC to a balmy, 100 degree desert, you bet I still wore my black yoga pants on the flight. Is there anything comfier when you’re stuck on a flying bus for 5 hours? No my friends, there is not. And yes they doubled as my pajamas for my redeye flight home.
Besides their comfort value, I’ll also argue yoga pants are the most versatile fashion piece. Yesterday’s airplane outfit gets recycled and becomes tomorrow’s workout wear. Two outfits for the luggage space of one.
I also usually rock yoga pants and a nice top as some point while traveling. But y’know, not exactly desert chic this time of year in Vegas.
But seriously, black yoga pants = versatility when traveling.
▶︎ BYONB: Bring Your Own Nut-butter
I do my best to stick to dairy-free eats while I’m traveling. It’s better for my belly… and all my travel companions. Trust me.
When it doubt, nut butter to the rescue. Slathered on a banana, it makes for a quality snack. And paired with whole-wheat toast it’s my favorite breakfast. And what I always eat before spending a day in Disneyland when I’m in LA.
My current fave is these power packets from Nutzo. Justin’s Nut Butter also makes a ton of excellent nutbutter packets.
▶︎ Flow wherever you are with Bulldog Yoga.
I love exploring the fitness scene of whatever city I’m traveling to. BUT sometimes there’s no fitness scene to checkout. Case and point: when I go home to my hometown in northern Westchester. The closest Soul Cycle is 40+ minutes away, my friends.
Or sometimes getting anywhere while traveling is a pain in the ass (and one expensive Uber ride).
I’ve been LOVING Bulldog Yoga’s online classes as an option when I’m on the go. While yes, I am partnering with them trust me, I wouldn’t just say that.
Before I agreed to partner, I wanted to test out a class for myself. You see, I’m not crazy about workout videos. I always feel SO awkward and find the instructors condescending. I’ll call it quits before the workout is through.
[they also have super cute apparel]
Bulldog Yoga has been different for me, though. For starters, their yoga classes remind me a lot of the classes I teach. You don’t have to be the best, most flexible, most zen person to participate. And the playlist are fun and contemporary (no yoga chanting here). In one of the classes I took online, we flowed it out to Michael Jackson and I was THRILLED.
There are a few different online class options. My favorite so far has been the exhilerate class, which is pretty athletic. I do a fair amount of core work and I was SHOCKED how sore my abs were after my class. Don’t let the relaxing vibes fool ya.
And pro tip for ya — Yoga mats aren’t exactly travel friendly. I ended up bringing one of those hot yoga towels and it was perfect for practicing on the go. And easier to shove in my suitcase.
▶︎ Drink up!
I’m talking about water, of course. After TSA inevitably confiscates my Poland Spring water bottle (fun fact: I ALWAYS have one in my purse), I buy the biggest water bottle I can find. And yes, I could travel with a reusable water bottle. But my hatred of water fountain water is another story for another day.
According to The Daily Meal “Drinking water before a trip hydrates your skin, oxygenates your muscles, and regulates your bodily fluids, alleviating swelling and liquid retention.”
Traveling to Las Vegas where the temperatures where well above 100 degrees (dry heat or not, that’s freaking HOT) you bet I was staying extra hydrated to make up for all the sweating I was doing.
I find that drinking enough water is the best way for me to feel my best. I’m less headache prone when I’m hydrated and have more energy.
▶︎ Explore by foot.
I was SHOCKED how much walking I ended up doing in Vegas. And this was just aimlessly walking (and shopping) my way through the Bellagio and Caesar’s Palace. I covered 6+ miles! Considering I spent 10 hours on an airplane total and only about 24 hours in Las Vegas, moving my legs felt good.
Walking has always been my favorite way to both explore a new city and get some movement in. I feel like it kills two bird with one stone. Yes, walking is good for you. But it’s also a far more fun way to get my legs moving than hanging out on a treadmill or stationary bike in a hotel gym.
Tell me: What are your super simple hacks for wellness on-the-go?

love these tips!!!! i’m so with you on the yoga pants – i always wear them on the plane with the intention of re-wearing them for a workout! definitely need to bring my own nut butter from now on – it’s much cheaper than half the garbage snacks you can buy at the airport or hotels, anyway!
