Happy Wednesday, lovelies!
This summer I gave myself permission to slow down which also meant posting less here. I focused on posting every Tuesday and Thursday instead of stressing to churn out more content. My Type-A brain loves having rules and loves adhering to said rules.
I figured I’d pop-in on a Wednesday to share some thoughts, feelings and things. Plus a mucho exciting life update. Or at least it’s something I’m hella excited about.
🌕 Solar Eclipse Vibes 🌑
Anyone else get swept up in the solar eclipse mania? I didn’t think I cared about it that much. Next thing I know, I devoted my entire afternoon to watching eclipse coverage on TV. Oops.
I’m not typically into astrology and anything remotely woo-woo. I am, however, uncharacteristically feeling these post solar eclipse vibes.
The solar eclipse marked a new moon, and apparently this new particular new moon is associated with passion. Well if you say so, moon.
I asked Leslie, who is far more woo-woo than me, tips for celebrating the new moon. She advised me to write what I want to manifest on a piece of paper and place the paper somewhere where I can see it every day. So I have my intention for this moon taped to my monitor.
And then things got weird and I felt compelled to go buy some crystals.
I walked to Crystal Garden on 10th Street in the East Village. Admitting why I chose what I chose is borderline embarrassing. My new crystal had to be cheap. And I wanted the colors to look pretty on instagram.
Besides those little factors, I purchased whatever I was compelled to and then looked up the meaning after. I ended up with:
- rose quartz – attracting and keeping love
- chrysocolla – communication, draw off negative energy
- blue lace agate – encouragement and support
🌑 I don’t believe in the healing power of crystals.
Yup. I said it. They’re rocks. Pretty rocks often times, but ultimately rocks. I’m judging myself a little for buying some pretty rocks.
But between the eclipse and new moon and feeling stagnant this summer, I figured the new juju couldn’t hurt. Even if I don’t think these shiny rocks have any real powers. And hey, the look pretty on my desk.
🌕 Why I Carry a Healing Crystal In My Bag 🌑
Last year around this time, I ended up at Crystal Garden with Leslie. I was about to start grad school. The prospect of change and new beginnings was freaking me out.
So I bought a pretty opalite, because why not. A crystal that’s supposed to assist you during a time of change. Plus it looked pretty.
I shoved the crystal in my backpack, only to be seen again when I lost something in my bag.
Did it give me magical powers? I mean, no. Did I adjust okay to the change? Minus a few too many math-induced breakdowns, I managed.
Crystal experts will probably tell me that I need to smudge that shiny little rock so it gets it’s powers back. I’m rolling my eyes as I type this incase you can’t tell.
Powers or not, that crystal is still in my backpack.
🌑 What Crystals Mean To Me.
No, I don’t believe in a crystal’s deep, innate, healing powers. But for me, they serve as a reminder of what I want to cultivate in my life.
It’s the same reason why I’ve worn a ratty hair tie around my left wrist for the last three years. This hair tie was once royal blue and said Taglit. Someone gave it to me while I was on Birthright in Israel three years ago.
It’s disgusting.
And no longer royal blue.
But wearing it reminds me of that trip. Going on that trip was a big deal for me. I struggle with a pretty brutal phobia and anxiety related to it. Being able to not only go on that trip, but also thrive and connect with a huge group of people was a big deal. So I wear this gross hair tie on my wrist to remind me that I have that ability.
And I look at crystals in the same way. It’s a reminder .
⭐️ Okay, and now the big news ⭐️
Sorry I don’t have some cute segue. I’ve been trying to figure out how to drop this news on the blog. I also already cheated and told instagram. But I love you guys more, promise.
I will be teaching Yoga Sculpt at the brand CorePower Yoga in Williamsburg!!!
Eeeep!
I took my first sculpt class at CPY a little over two years ago (<— vintage class review right there). When the company announced they were coming to NYC, I knew I wanted in.
Because CPY is still new to New York, they’ve been hosting intensives to train new instructors. In July I attended trainings and auditions for Yoga Sculpt and C1, the intro yoga class at CPY. I’m beyond grateful for the experience. Even having that kind of opportunity to receive a butt ton of feedback was amazing.
I’m especially excited to be teaching sculpt. It’s a musically driven yoga workout that uses weights. As a personal trainer turned yoga teacher it is my JAM.
If you’re in NYC hope to see you in class 🙂 The studio is set to open mid-September and I’ll be adding a new page where I’ll update my schedule.
Phew, glad that’s out there.
Your turn: What are your thoughts on healing crystals? Yay or nay? And any CorePower fans out there? I know they’re new to NYC but I’m blown away by the fan club in other cities!

How exciting that you’ll be teaching yoga! I always see posts about crystals and I can’t help but roll my eyes at them lol. But seeing them as a reminder for positive thinking is a great approach!

I’m so excited to be teaching at CPY!
Oh I’m so with you on the eye rolling 😂 I don’t think my crystals are gonna cure cancer or ailments but if they remind me to be positive or a bit more creative, I’ll take it.
jordan @ dancing for donuts says
so exciting!!!! congratulations!!! i use to go to CorePower religiously every single day when i first moved here, but my back injuries keep me from going to class anymore :/ and i’m intrigued by these crystals but not totally sold…you’ll have to keep us updated on what you think of them!
Kayla says
I think I first read about CPY from you — this was like circa 2012 when I was in LA and first researching doing yoga teacher training!
I’m not sure I’ll ever be sold on crystals, but hey they look cute and make my desk a bit more colorful.
Leslie says
I love that you carry the crystals as a reminder. The crystals only have power when we give it to them, so ultimately you are giving it the power they need to help you on your journey, even if it’s a reminder to follow your dream, work hard, allow love to come into your life for others or yourself. The reminders are the power 🙂
xo
Woo-Woo Friend

You really are my go-to woo friend 🙂 And I have my new moon intention taped to my second monitor as a reminder, promise!
Leslie says
Oh and so freaking excited for CPY!
Theodora says
1. Can’t wait to take your class at CPY!
2. At this [shitty] juncture of my life, I’ll take power and strength wherever I can get ’em, and a friend and I went to a crystal store in LA last week — and now I’m seeing crystals all over the place.
Kayla says
How LA of you 😜 and hey, having some pretty rocks certainly doesn’t hurt!
Can’t wait to have you in class!!!!!
