Things I’ve gathered [so far] from the Kayla in the City reader survey:
There’s LOTS of ladies up in here! Hey, girl, HEY! Okay, I already knew that from looking at Google Analytics. And like duh, my writing is very geared towards the ladies. Guess this means I can openly talk about my period more? Oh wait, that already happened.
But also, you guys LOVE Favorite Things posts. Me too! Every month they’re one of my favorite posts to put together. However, they’re also a bit of a beast with all the resizing + photo editing that goes down. Instead of a huge post for every month, I’m going to start doing weekly favorites instead. Sound good?
I’d love to hear your thoughts if you prefer weekly bite sized favorites or a big kahuna monthly favorite — let me know!
ALSO… if you haven’t already taken the Kayla in the City reader survey, I’d seriously appreciate it! Take the survey here.
These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things // Vol. #1
Foods I’m Loving…
Siete Foods Nacho tortilla chips.
I like to think of these cheesy flavored chips as a vegan, not chemical filled, twist on classic Doritos. Not that I’ve eaten Doritos since middle school. These chips are SO addicting. Like, it’s a miracle this bag has lasted more than 24-hours. Don’t worry, they will be demolished by hour 48.
Siete Foods creates products that are gluten-free, grain-free and soy-free. I am not any of the above, but I do appreciate a salty snack that’s made with “real” food.
Also their website is HILARIOUS. I was just perusing some of the product descriptions and they’re simply excellent.
Ramen from Ichiba Ramen [Greenwich Village]
I’ve been on SUCH a ramen kick lately. Not gonna lie, the only ramen I’ve had [besides that dehydrated packet stuff I used to make growing up] is from Ichiba in Union Square. I have nothing to compare it to, but Jeremy and I both agree it’s GOOD. We’ve each been getting an order of the Tantamem ramen, a spicy chicken soup. I like to add a soft boiled egg.
sweetgreen opens on University Place
As if I needed another reason to never leave Greenwich Village, a brand new sweetgreen opened up on University. Take all my money, sweetgreen, and gimme all the Shroomami bowls.
What I Read…
When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon
I’ve been reading a lot of Young Adult Fiction lately. It’s light and just what I crave after a long day. This week I finished When Dimple Met Rishi, a cutesy book about young love during a pre-college summer program. Some of it is cringe-worthy, no doubt. But then I again I guess all young love is real awkward. Overall an enjoyable, quick read.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Continuing on in my Taylor Jenkins Reid love fest, I started her newest novel this week, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. I’m only a few pages in [some nights I only read for about 10 minutes before I pass out] but already love it. A number of people replied to an IG story I posted about it saying they LOVED the book. I’m excited to read more.
What I Listened To…
I’ve been binging my way through the Chasing Joy podcast lately. I usually don’t love interview style podcasts, but I love something about Georgie’s interviews and choice of guests.
This week I had so many “A-ha!” moments while listening to Episode 34: Making Your Life Your Masterpiece, Not Your Body with Katie Dalebout. The episode talks a lot about the importance of CONNECTION has part of healthy living. Katie recent moved to NYC and talks about how letting go of routine and strictness when it comes to wellness has actually made her happier and left her feeling better.
It’s something I’ve been thinking about lately. I’ve definitely loosened my grip when it comes to my healthy habits. I still workout 5-6 days a week, because it’s something I genuinely enjoy. But my actual workouts have been more low-key. My eating habits are far from perfect, sure I eat sweetgreen and my favorite sauteed and chickpeas recipe a lot. But I also eat ramen and pad thai whenever I feel like it.
I’ll talk more about this in the future, but in the meantime check out this episode.
What I’m Watching…
Project Runway
OH MY GOD! Last night’s episode. I can’t. Anyone else watch this show? Anyone else’s jaw drop about 5 times while watching last night? My BFF David was watching on the West Coast, so I was asleep by the time the episode aired for him. I woke up to 13 text messages from him freaking out.
Things That Brought Me Joy…
Hosting an alumni wellness event
My company Holistic Happening started hosting private wellness events. This week we put together a yoga + dinner event for Middlebury alumni and parents. I came home legit beaming, it was such a fun night.
