Hi guys! It’s been a dreary Monday here in NYC but looks like the sun is finally peaking out a bit. I’ve so loved reading through your responses to last week’s reader survey (<— if you haven’t taken it yet, I’d still love to hear from ya!)
One of the most common requests was for more Day In The Life posts. It’s been a HOT second since my last one in the spring when I spent most days at my internship for school.
As you guys know, lots has changed since then. No two days are the same, but I’m starting to settle into a good routine that seems to work for me.
Also, I made this little replica of what my week was like 2 weeks ago. Because who doesn’t love a google calendar visual?
A Week in the Life ★ October 2017
▶︎ Teaching Yoga Sculpt // Monday, Wednesday, Thursday.
I currently teach 3 permanent classes a week at CorePower Yoga. Most weeks it’s been more like 4 classes with subbing other classes. On Monday’s and Wednesday’s I teach the 6AM class. Thursday’s I [sort of] sleep-in and teach the 7:30AM class.
On days when I teach 6AM I’m waking up around 4:15AM. Yes, it’s as early as it sounds.
I love teaching the morning classes, though. There’s something SO satisfying about being done with work AND my workout before 9AM. Most of the time I stick around to take the class after mine, either Yoga Sculpt or C2 which is a level 2 heated vinyasa yoga class.
On days like today I teach, take class and then food shop on my way home. Once I’m home I’ll shower and get ready for the day and make myself lunch.
▶︎ Afternoons
As shown in my mock google week above, I keep afternoons pretty open. The truth is I’m TIRED most days and usually have stuff going on at night that requires me to be “on”. Uh and awake.
I’ll spend the day lounging on my couch or at my desk:
- answering emails [it’s a never ending process]
- writing blog posts. Like I am doing right this second
- taking blogging related phone calls
- writing for freelance gigs
- creating playlist + sequences for class I’m teaching
Oh and I sometimes do homework. And more often than not I forget that I’m in grad school because blogging is WAY more fun. Obviously.
Every day around 3PM I take a break. I’ll go get coffee and walk around while listening to a podcast for 30 or so minutes. The change of scenery + caffeine keeps me going to push through whatever I got going on at night!
▶︎ Grad School: Monday + Tuesday
I’m taking two classes this semester, both in the evening. I’ll be honest, I’d MUCH prefer afternoon classes. But this is when the required classes for my major are offered. So it goes.
On nights when I have class I eat dinner REAL early. By the time I get home from school it’s too late to eat a real meal — especially if I’m teaching the next morning. Because of this I’m conscious to eat a super early lunch as well. Living the senior citizen dream up in here.
▶︎ Holistic Happening.
I’m the co-creator of a wellness event company, Holistic Happening. Since September we’ve been hosting roughly 1 event a week on one of the nights I don’t have school. Lately we’ve been hosting a lot of events where I teach a yoga class and then Leslie cooks dinner. It’s truly a labor of love and I always leave these events BEAMING.
▶︎ And *sometimes* I do fun things at night.
The hardest thing for me this semester has been having such limited free-time at night. I only got 2 days open thanks to school! If I’m not hosting an event, attending an event or seeing a show, I try to catch-up with friends over dinner. Or I just veg the f*ck out watching Project Runway in my pajamas cuz I’m tired.
▶︎ Friday = Fun Day.
On Friday’s I sleep-in. Like, I’m talking 9AM alarm kind of sleep in. It feels GLORIOUS. I’ve been heading to a late morning workout class and then spend the rest of the day catching up on loose ends from the week. Or getting a massage like I did last week.
And there ya have it. What a “typical” week looks like for me this semester. Hopefully one of these days I’ll remember to take photos and I’ll do a real “day-in-the-life” post.
Your turn: What’s your week like? Do you have a routine you tend to follow each week?
